The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Krispy kremes are vile little donuts. Looks like Frodo had fun.
See you all tomorrow. I keep expecting to wake up and find the last two days have been a very bad dream.

The baby still doing good?
I can't stand it when little ones are sick. It's why I never could be a pedi nurse. I'd be sobbing wreck all the time.
You know I pray over my kids when they are getting their shots? LOL The first pedi I ever had (with Matthew)had a WONDERFUL black nurse...very large lady, very sweet and spiritual. I'd be praying and she'd be muttering "Yes, Lord! Yes, Lord!" the whole time she was giving Matthew his shots! She was so sweet...

That is really very interesting about the granite...it would be good for the chickens, for grit.
My husband and I both do the organic "square foot" gardening thing...always one bed is unused and the rest are rotated (we have eight 5x10' beds). Now the coop is on the unused bed.
Steve knows something about this adding minerals business...we used to do it in our garden in Texas. I'll mention it to him again...
Thank you again for your information!

Why on earth did I have to double post that statement, of all the statements in the thread? Whenever I start feeling blue... I start breathing again.

HA ha!! Excellent picture!
Remember when the one opened here in Tulsa last year? That was just a year ago...a couple of weeks ago.

Hmmm... Organic gardening...
Another way of saying "Why yes! I DO need more bugs in my diet, thanks!!"
hehhehe... just kidding...

I keep expecting to wake up and find the last two days have been a very bad dream. Oh nuts. I thought this *was* waking up from the *bad* dream. Bummer, that. You should have seen the *bad* dream. :-)
To: Ramius
I beg your pardon! I'll have you know we have NO bugs in our garden. Well, a few...but they don't do any damage...well, not too much...we have a few aphids.
I keep my eyes open for squash vine borer...but so far, none! I don't know why...last year they decimated us.
Could it be the chickens that are wandering amongst the squash?
Shrugs
And did you know that cutworms live just under the surface of the soil and only come out at night? If you wander around out there with a flashlight, you can see them and easily pick them off. I've spent many a romantic evening in the garden with my hubby...squashing cutworms!

Once my brother bought some green beans or something off the side of the road. He put them in the microwave without looking through them or washing them or anything. I think they needed boiling anyway.
But we got served these rock hard stringy beans, with lots of green caterpillars scattered through them. So no one ate those beans after one look at the plate.

My mom took one of my broccoli home one time and boiled it and a flood of worms came out of it. She's been leary of my stuff ever since, but it was our fault...we planted a cruciferous at the wrong time of year. This year we'll plant it in the fall after the cabbage looper butterfly is no longer a problem.
