The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I am glad your garden is going to be looking better for the party. Too bad they won't know how good it could have been!

I thought about asking: if I decided right after lunch that I didn't want to work there, could I just leave? :)

Heh.... Jack Russel had a lot of energy... But Gidget liked him, she wouldn't get down on the ground at his level like that if she didn't.

There so cute!
It's fun to see older dogs act like puppies when there around younger dogs.

Buy a living celebrity! Any English trained horse can convert to Western! - No price listed, and the other horses on that site were priced at $12,500 to $18,000.... I suspect that means she is more.

Indeed. That little guy was a hard charger though! He bounced all over the place!

Party's over, food and prizes were a hit, and the garden didn't look to bad. The sunflowers are still face down:(

Great pictures of the dogs playing. Susie, my Jack, couldn't figure out what was going on tonight, and why I kept getting up and changing chairs so often. She sits under me:), she finally wondered outside and came back with a stick to chew. Everyone is always so surprised when they find out she is a 2 1/2 yr old Jack, because she is so good. Once the excitment of greeting everyone is over she pretty much stays right by me.

Well glad it is over.

How is Bay today? Does he seem sore? Sometimes when you change the angle it can sore them up a bit for a while. Don't you love it when a farrier and a vet can't agree on what the problem is. That drives me batty.

I;ve never seen a horse colored like that. Do you suppose he was body clipped on his back.

Glad the party went well, 'cept for the sunflowers!

I am not going to work Bay for a few days because he has to adjust to the new feet.

He seems fine. I am not going to start Buting him till tomorrow, since I am worming him tonight. His tummy will have enough to contend with. I will Bute him for two days, then work him and see what I see!

In the end, the farrier left believing that it was not Laminitis and that he really does have Navicular. He just had to test it for himself. I think farriers that have been shoeing a horse for years sortof feel guilty and defensive if a horse gets Navicular, since improper shoeing is often blamed. He stood there looking at Bay's feet and scratching his head, saying, well, yeah, I guess he does have a pretty under-run heel. I said "look Mark, he is 22 years old, raced endurance and carried a 200 pound man all over Montana in his life and his feet were the same shape then. He has imperfect conformation, but he has held up pretty well.

I would have loved it if it was Laminitis. That can be cured. But the vet obviously had looked into that too, and I just knew that he hadn't been on good enough pasture this year to have Laminitis...

Bay's new feet. Doesn't looke like a radical change to me, but I will say that he filed a lot more toe off this time than usual.

Or blanket clipped perhaps in his sweat zones, I have even done a clip like that, clipping the armpits belly and neck, and leaving the back and topline hair. but the lines are usually more pronounced.

I think her coloring is similar to the British warmblood Bay horses.... not unlike mule markings.

The think that strikes me about that horse is her hindquarter.... the British jumpers have that jumping bump butt that is so exaggerated.... Course... I look at a flat Arab butt all day.

How much is it per month

It's $19.95 a month, but I think we've watched over 300 movies since we signed up in Oct. of 2000. I still have over 120 movies on my queue! We don't go out to the movies that often. We'd much rather watch them at home where we can pause them for snack and potty breaks, and enjoy the commentaries if the DVD has one. There are only a very few we'll go to see on the big screen these days. Check them out HERE

I'm really looking forward to a possible minimoot tomorrow night!

We just got home from ours a little while ago! I picked ecurbh up at his Grandmother's house and took him to the Boy Scout family picnic with us! I realized this afternoon that we weren't going to have any time to visit if we just met at the theater. So he got to attend the social event of the season and meet some friends of mine. One of the guys asked him if I 'talked' on line like I do in person. He said yeah! Yeah, I'm a talker, what can I say?

After the picnic, we got to the movie just in time for the opening sequence. There was this jerky guy a few rows behind us who would always say in a DEEP voice "GANDALF" whenever Gandalf showed up on screen. About half-way through the movie, a guy from the theater came in and told the guy to cut it out or he'd throw them out! Maybe the guy was annoying the folks around him more than we was us. I only noticed it a few times.

The movie was just as good the 5th time for us (6th for ecurbh). We were remarking on how neat it is that it seems new every time we see it, even though we know what is going to happen during the whole thing!

We did get some pics with Flat Frodo. I'll post them on Sunday night when we get back. I still have to pack!

Have a great weekend!
