Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

just gettin this place in order has been more than a full time job... a job that I relish...
I'm not heroic... just did my job...
oh... and theres a 16 pointer, a couple of 12 pointers, and a half dozen 10 pointers runnin' amuck around here...
To: g'nad
Good luck on the rest of your life, g'nad! A lot of my family has been in the military. I think everyone who serves is a hero.
Hope whatever you decide to do suits you.

I've said it before, but I don't think it can be said enough: Thank you for your service!
Transitions are usually difficult... but with kids around you'll always have a worthwhile task to keep you busy. ;)
I'm off to take Rose to dinner and a movie... later all!

To: g'nad
Congrats on your retirement g'nad...as I write this I'm preparing to go to a retirement party for a [former] co-worker of mine (Hah!...she's retiring today and I'm sort-of unemployed). The simple stuff does sound nice after the hard stuff (so, of course, I'm off chasing more difficult stuff again...never learn). What I'm discovering is that there are a million and one ways to bring in a little money, but usually we ignore a million of them and get all focused on one. You're in a good place, you can find that thing that you like doing regardless of whether you got paid for it.

To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
Are ya gonna go? I don't think it would hurt you!
To: g'nad
At your service, g'nad.
It'll be the only time you'll see me encouragin' such behavior. Come fall, I'll be pleadin' the case of the deer.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
thanks fer the wise words Scott... I've been courted by several companies, but there all exec jobs, wearin' a suit, stress, dealin' with stiffs... not interested... I was approached about a chief of staff job fer one of the GOP state reps (forget which one, honest)... I'm just not ready fer that now... a part time job at the trout hatchery or State Park sounds right up my alley... then, if I get masochistic, maybe substitute teachin'...
