Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Winter in Eastern WA is a real winter. Snow on the ground from November through February. That part I got used to when I was in school. We went out and cut down a tumbleweed for a Christmas tree every year! LOL! It can be a more pleasant winter than the endless rain on this side of the mountains. At least the sun comes out!

I think that would be great. For you 2 to have kids to read that to.
Now, I have 3 grandkids and would dearly love to be able to read them The Hobbit. However, the oldest lives in Oregon. She's 10 and told me on Christmas day that she wished she was here and could watch the movies with me. She also asked for a set of books for her birthday - it's in April but she's probably going to be getting them via ebay or amazon within the next couple of weeks.
The other 2 are ages 4 and 2 and live in Germany. Hopefully they will be back in the states in a year or so and I can have 'em visit some and read to them. The oldest liked FoTR on video but she's very active and I don't know how she'd do at long reading sessions.
At any rate, I think you need to keep practicing that reading to Rose while waiting for those kids.

Well, you brought out a good little chuckle there. That winter was my first away from home. My first with a child and my first in muchas snow! I laughed at your tumbleweed comment though because that was one of the things there that actually made me less homesick. I had tumbleweeds so at least I was somewhere with related herbage to home! LOL

My last serious boyfriend was irritating to me, but it was no small thing for me that kids absolutely adored him. It raised him up a few notches, and was almost enough! HA!

Tumbleweeds are amazing structures. We actually dragged one all the way from Moses Lake to Seattle on one trip home (we were easily entertained!), and it held up beautifully the whole way!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yep. Bear sounds like a major keeper to me. Just listening to him tell us about Rose makes me kind of (sniff) sentimental. :-)
To: HairOfTheDog
Tumbleweeds are amazing structuresAnd, for the record, I have had one in my living room in the honored position of Christmas tree. Complete with lights, ornaments and gifts underneath.
Ummm.... my children appreciate having an eccentric mom too. They both think it's very nice that I've finally found friends in my new town in a hobbit hole.
To: Wneighbor; Penny1
HA!
Well, on that note, I am going to call it a night. I am sleepy, and my dog wants to watch FoTR...
Penny will tell you - I am telling the truth! ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Hehehe.... Our dog loves to watch ANY video. As long as we don't have company so that she gets ALL the attention during the film. Attention = petting, food droppings, scratching, food spills, snuggles, unwatched food. You get the idea. She's only a 2 person dog though - old and doesn't like us to have much company, most especially of the 4 legged variety.
We got her from a friend who removed her from an abusive situation. She had a name, but we renamed her - Smeagol. Believe me, it fits - and seeing the gollum/smeagol scene was totally fitting of our pooch.

I have bad qualities too, you know!
I just don't mention them here... ;)

Rosie, I know you will have a wonderful day at work tomorrow! In the mean time I will say a little prayer for a good day for you.
And Corin, I'll send up quite a few for you and yours as well. Sorry to hear about all the things that just keep adding and building.

I strain it through a coffee filter when it's really hot and it made a real nice smooth fat. I don't strain mine. I like to keep those little grainy bits in it for extra flavor!
40 and pre-menopausal? Is that what my problem has been for the last 9 years?

And Rose is such a fine lady that she wouldn't dare mention any of those things to us. I'll call you blessed for that old man.

LOTR actor news... aplogies if this has been mentioned before, but I hadn't seen it!
NEW YORK, NY (Oct. 2, 2002)-- Showtime Networks has renewed JEREMIAH for a second season with 15 additional episodes and has added Sean Astin ("The Lord of the Rings" "Staying Together") to the show, which stars Luke Perry (Beverly Hills, 90210) as "Jeremiah" and Malcolm-Jamal Warner (Malcolm & Eddie) as "Kurdy." The Sci-Fi series from MGM is created for television by sci- fi icon J. Michael Straczynski, creator & executive producer of Babylon 5. It has been an important part of Sci-Fridays on SHOWTIME along with the network's other new series ODYSSEY 5. The show will go into production October 23, 2002 and will now be produced and aired in high definition television - HDTV.
In the new season, Sean Astin, known for his role as Samwise Gamgee in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will play a quirky colorful character named "Mr. Smith" who will partner with Warner's character, "Kurdy." Together they will go out on the road to help forge new alliances that will help in the rebuilding of their nation.
The series is set in a future post-apocalyptic world where, almost a decade before, a deadly virus wiped out the world's adult population sparing only those who hadn't reached puberty. Now, the oldest survivors of the "Big Death" are trying to survive and create a civilization out of the chaos that ensued after the adults died, and with them much of society's collective wisdom.
During the first season, Jeremiah was hoping to locate a mysterious place called Valhalla, which his father claimed might hold some hope for the survivors, but this personal quest was redirected when he met up with Kurdy and they discovered a group of highly organized survivors at Thunder Mountain who wanted to enlist them to orchestrate peace among the warring factions and to try and prevent the killer virus from returning. As the second season opens, Jeremiah has been separated from Kurdy in the aftermath of a struggle with forces from the Valhalla Sector. He is being held in captivity and is about to be reunited with his father - a mysterious figure who holds the answers to many secrets about Jeremiah's world.

I am watching disc 4 this morning, inspired by the description of it in yesterday's posts! "Viggo, if we tip over, SAVE YOURSELF!" HA! We finally watched both the appendix discs yesterday. We started a fire mid day, and just hunkered down in the den and watched them on the laptop. I loved that part about Kieran; "I can't swim"! He has such a funny voice! Viggo was hilarious talking about trying not to move his mouth while still talking to Kieran!

Have you seen this show? I don't get it - probably because we still live in the stone age and don't have cable. But, was wondering if it's any good.
To: Wneighbor
Clarification - I don't get it - means this show doesn't come in where we live.
To: SuziQ
This is getting worse and worse hearing everyone talk about what's on these disks and I don't have 'em. I think I'm going to have to do some imaginative budgeting. Have a garage sale or something.

I've finished burning my master "commuter" CD with 183 MP3 files. Now I don't have to lug all those CD's around!
Talk to everyone tomorrow...bright-eyed and ...er...bushytailed!
