Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It was so fun to see the Extended the first time! - It is like watching a whole new movie! - Wondering what is gonna come next! Well, watch it a few more times over the next week! Glad you and your wife enjoyed it.
To: HairOfTheDog
OK - Enough funkling. I guess if no one else is gonna post on this thread today I will just take a nap!

I'm here! I just sat down with my coffee and a biscuit. I'll just get a helping of the eggs Ruthy put out and I'll be set.
It sounds like you and Penny had a good time...how nice! I wish you all were closer.
I will be starting on OT and Rosie's cookies this afternoon. Get them in the mail first thing in the morning.
To: 2Jedismom
Mmmmm......cookies! I made your pumpkin bread recipe this morning.
Next up....FOTR SE while I clean some more collards.
To: Overtaxed
Mmmm Collards! How do you cook them?
I went in the kitchen and told Steve that "one of my friends on FR had asked if it was coffee-time in Tulsa" then I just started bawling. He looked at me like I'd lost my mind.
I'm 40 and pre-menapausal I guess.
To: 2Jedismom
Nowadays I skip the fatback (although I do have some bacon grease in the fridge) and just cook them with salt, garlic, and a bit of olive oil....Dad would be horrified!
Oops! I'm sorry I caused so much trouble in your household.
To: Overtaxed
I keep bacon grease in the fridge too! I strain it through a coffee filter when it's really hot and it made a real nice smooth fat.
BRB...gotta make another pot of coffee! This one is terrible and I enjoy coffee too much to endure a terrible cup.

More collards today eh? I am watching disc 4 this morning, inspired by the description of it in yesterday's posts! "Viggo, if we tip over, SAVE YOURSELF!" HA!
Good morning 2J! Still no cookies of any kind delivered yesterday... I think ecurbh must have sent his via squirrel mail! I WILL let you know!
To: HairOfTheDog; 2Jedismom
Yeah....it seems I overbought on collards for New Year's Day. They had a special: buy one bunch, get the second free.
2JM: Yes, I keep bacon grease. It's great for popping corn in. Maybe I'll make some bacon-flavored popcorn this afternoon.
To: 2Jedismom
2JM - There are few things worse than a bad cup of coffee to one who is expecting, anticipating and savoring a good one. Do you grind your own, experiment with different kinds?
We've been happy with Millstone brand from Price Chopper, currently Mayan Black Onyx in the morning and a flavored decaf in the evening. Fog Lifter is another good one. Flavored tend to be a pecan or hazelnut type. In Albuquerque there was a pinyon nut flavor that was absolutely great, but not available here.
Here's to a good cup - cheers.

I sent hair's cookies in th box my new crank popper came in!
I'll have to try that with the bacon grease!
A guy on Chiff and Fipple, the one that gave me the Hoover Bb that Mack exchanged for a regular PVC D, well, he wrote a request for prayer...his brother's wife was killed. Just got me so down.

My response is 2nd from the bottom.

I love a good cup of coffee and my mom usually gets me a half pound of Kona each year for Christmas to enjoy on special occassions. I used the last of my last half pound to make a pot that we all enjoyed the last time I saw my father in law alive...he died of cancer not too much later.
This is just plain old Aldi's brand. It's on the level of Folgers, but I like it better and it only costs $3.29 for 39oz! LOL
To: 2Jedismom
So sad! How old are the boys?
To: Overtaxed
I don't know. Just made me sick, though.
To: HairOfTheDog
It still didn't get there? That's what I get for trusting a government agency. I guess I'll use UPS or FedEx next time.
To: ecurbh
Welcome back, ecurbh!
To: Overtaxed
I think that's what got me so emotional though, this morning. You make friends in this cyberworld...friends that need your help and that even miss you when you're not around. Look how happy we all were to see LCS! And when RWRF checked in. And how our hearts all went out to Itsourtimenow and Rosie and Corin during the rough times they've had...
I have no problem brushing off the jerks in this world, but there's some awful good people out there too.
To: 2Jedismom
Jerk brushing can be fun sometimes!
To: Overtaxed
Oh yes! One of my most favorite things in life! There's a great deal of satisfaction in completely disregarding someone! LOL

They had a special: buy one bunch, get the second free. Heh. I have a story! - When I was in college, I was driving home with my best friend, and we were driving through Wenatchee Washington, famous for its apples.
As a novelty, she thought it would be fun to buy two nice big perfect Delicious apples, one each for her Grandma and Grandpa who would be visiting when she got home, from somewhere else in the country.
So we stopped at a roadside stand! And this is how it went!
She picked out two perfect apples, and walked to the cashier...
Cashier: Ummm... Miss, for another dollar, you could have a whole CRATE of apples, instead of just two.
Friend: OH! - Really! - OK! Perhaps Grandma will want to make a pie! I will have a crate then! Can I put these two in the crate?
Yes. and if you buy one crate, you get another crate free!
HA! Jeepers! - So this novelty turned into two whole crates of apples her grandparents would not know what to do with before their trip back home!
