Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Look who showed up on my doorstep this afternoon:

He still looks a little spooked from that trip to Baltimordor. I took this with a cheap PC cam...sorry for the picture quality.

Hey, I took my sketchbook, and drew some of the folks in the audience during the ceremony. Made the thing go by quickly.
Weirdly, 2 rows ahead was all lesbian, which I hadn't realized...anyway, I have a sketch of one of them. Every time someone picked up a degree with "women's studies," the whole row stood up and screeched their approval.
I still heard and absorbed the speeches, all about political correctness.
But it was great seeing my god daughter, and her parents and brother, all of whom I love, as does my family.

Alas, I'm wearing shorts that were loose on me last summer.... and they are no longer loose. Matter of fact, there is overhang over the waist. Gross.

I didn't know about the ears, but white around the eyes is a fault for Dalmatians in the dog show world (a disqualification fault). Lighter colored eyes, or eyes with just patch of blue in them are an indication of deafness -- but it isn't necessarily so, some perfect hearing Dals have completely blue eyes (they're really striking).

Looks ready to defend the Carolina's to me. Don't let any yankees come around. (no offense meant to any Hobbit Holers of course)

She's one of them dwarf women with beards or something.
Am not! I'm just an old curmudgeon hobbit.
To: Sam Cree
See, that was worth the visit.
I love it that you sketch like that. The engineer that I worked for the longest used to do that in all meetings. It was so fun! I could stand the worst of meetings just by watching him sketch. Of course, many of the sketches were not politically correct.
It's great when you can go to a ceremony or something like that and have a nice visit with people who are important to you.

Check this out...they are sleeping! They look pretty content. They actually look happier than when they were in the feed store! There they just seemed frantic.I hope you got some food for them. I know some of the democrats from Texas severely depleted the Oklahoma supply of chicken feed a couple of weeks ago.

"Ancient eyes" is what I call them -- the eyes look like they were formed back in beginning of time. It almost looks "unnatural" it is so striking. They give the dog a look like there's still a bit of wild animal in them.
To: JenB
That sounds good.
Myranda leaves for Germany Sunday June 1 at 2:45. I will have the house to myself for 30 days. Do you need to visit? I have a very large house for 1 person.

I just can't believe that come sundown on May 31st, 2003, I'll be a slimey civilian... no offense to you... Absolutely none taken, g'nad!
Thank you for sharing your retirement letter with us! I thought a lot about you when you were heading out that last day. I have cried before upon closing the door on chapters in my life that were nowhere near as honorable. You have led a remarkable life g'nad.
I do not underestimate how sad this is for you. But I truly hope you love your retirement on your wonderful place with your beautiful family. I hope you find it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.
To: Wneighbor
I'd sure take you up on the offer if I didn't have to work!
Besides, we went over this last night... I'm going to need an interpreter around some of you guys at EntMoot!

Yes, her eyes were some of the most incredible eyes I've ever seen. Alas, we believe that one was stolen from us. I got her because a co-worker in a small apartment had bought her. Thought she could live in an apartment laundry room. I got her at about 7 months. She was lovely. She disappeared 3 times. It was when the movie came out. The first time our neighbor's had actually seen someone walk in our fence and get her when we were gone. They didn't do anything because they thought it must be someone I knew getting her for some reason I knew about. Because of those circumstances word went out all over our area about the theft. (gossip) Myranda and I were devastated. About 3 days later a friend of a friend who lived about 5 miles from us called and said she'd found a dal on the gravel road heading toward our area and had heard we'd lost one. We went to see and it was Saphire.
She didn't like to stay in the house when we were gone so we put her on a lead in the back yard after that. She disappeared again. But, turned up back at the house a little less than 2 weeks later. We were glad to know she knew the way home but had no idea who was taking her. The 3rd time she disappeared she didn't come back. *sigh*

the honor is mine Sam... men with your character remind me of the value of our freedom, and why I strove so hard to defend it...
To: g'nad
I'm off to drink myself into a stupor... I hope I didn't miss you! - I sat for so long just trying to think of something to say! - Words seem a cumbersome way to communicate.
