The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

We have never had cross words here, and I hope we never do. Hmmmm....should we start up another elf-bash war just to demonstrate?
To: ksen
Cool news, ksen. Clare's excited about that one!!

In Fiona's case, I'm afraid she wouldn't get that I and the shock collar were connected in any way...just know that she was getting shocked. I don't know if they make ones that small, either.
But I sure wish she was better! Considering that she STILL doesn't really understand "heel" after plenty of leash time, I somehow doubt I'll ever be able to control her off leash.
I love her, with all her quirks...but I don't know that I'll get another dachshund. Some days...

Has anyone let ToRN know about the adventures of Flat Frodo yet?We should also wait until I get the site moved over to a new web host, which should occur in the next few weeks.

Here in The Shire, we know we're all nuts...No, No Corin!!! We're eccentric! And in the Shire, as in the South, we don't hide our eccentrics, we put them out on the front porch for everyone to see!!

I get shocked and awed at how angry people get over pretty what I think are pretty minor ideas. It isn't a "huh... you think the train to heaven is blue, that is interesting! - In my family, we think of it as green, and we believe it goes through Cincinatti on the way." "Ah... I see". It gets heated with backup info and quotes of the Bible where it plainly says it must be blue and must go through Denver. I honestly don't think any of those distinctions matter a whole lot....

But that is just pretend controversy.

The second lesson, never call and call and call while you are chasing the dog and then punish him when you catch him. Grr....had a big argument with my Dad over that one a few years ago. They had a young lab, and we'd always done the training, but the older kids were out of the house and my [lazy] younger brother wasn't doing much in the way of training. So...if Danny ran away and then came home eventually, Dad would yell at him and tell him he was bad. Guess what? He didn't get GOOD at coming until I finally convinced them to reward him when he came when called, or when they finally got a hold of him. Surprise!

No question that I don't like who I "become" over in the religion wars (that is my term for the entire forum, I have never been part of the NES). And that's the reason that these days, for the most part, I stay away.
I got involved in the Morg Wars because I thought the management was playing favorites. However, I will not join in drsteve's current quest to storm the gates of the Vatican.
I have a list (and I bet you can name most of them) of people to whom I will never post again.
That has been a very healthy thing.

I have my own skeletons in the closet though.... I can't throw away coffee cans. They are so useful! But I don't need this many.I have about a thousand floppies that I should throw away, but I'm too lazy to round them up and "sanitize" them before throwing away. Besides, Marl is a REAL floppy-disk packrat, and would want them all. I refuse to be an enabler, because I can't figure out why she continues to rely on them in this day and age. I just need a floppy or two for the rare boot-from-floppy app.
I must confess I'm a data-CD packrat, too. I have hundreds that I should throw out. But at least I'm closer to doing that, now that I have a CD "shredder". It's a small motorized box with two heavy knurled steel rollers. The CD is fed between them, and thousands of little pyramid-shaped "pits" are pressed into both sides. This screws up even the "CD present" track, and a CD drive can't even tell if there's a CD present.

I feel pretty, oh so pretty!

Is Jr. interested in Japanese Anime? You know I'm not sure I could identify Anime. Do Pokemon/Digimon fit in that category? He'll still watch those, but he's packed away the Pokemon cards.
To: Corin Stormhands
Becky is into Pokemone these days, much to my dismay!
She goes bananas everytime she sees those cards for sale anywhere! LOL!
I have to admit though. It is so adorable to hear a 5 year old explain the different creatures!

We're eccentric! And in the Shire, as in the South, we don't hide our eccentrics, we put them out on the front porch for everyone to see!! Good point. Eccentric relatives are a badge of honor in the South! (thank heavens for that!)

I'm afraid she wouldn't get that I and the shock collar were connected in any way...You would be if it is done right. The first time the shock collar is ever used, you must be on leash. It would go something like "come": if the dog does not turn toward you instantly, then shock once and pull the dog in with the line. So the dog is shown how to avoid it with standard leash corrections. Before the shock collar is used.... he has to know what the word means, and what he is supposed to do. It isn't used to teach new things, only enforce known commands. And always on leash until he knows how to avoid it, or you are right, he will just run away, and shocking him again won't help learn how to avoid it. They soon learn that they never get shocked when they are right near you. You are the safety, wandering off and ignoring your warnings is where it is unsafe.

The cute veterinarian is coming to look at Bay today at 3:30! Congratulations!
How do I lose 30 pounds
Body wrap????? Or are you there already and can't come to the keyboard?
Good day all! I've been bustin' my buns since first light. I'm kickin' back for a while now. But, the house almost looks good enough for company tomorrow.

We all have obsessions I guess!
As for the CD destroyer, that is interesting! - I have never had to dispose of a CD that was sensitive!
To: HairOfTheDog
I suppose it's something to think about. I probably should have done something like that earlier...she's almost 2 now. But she's so rarely out and unrestrained that it hasn't been as much of an issue as it would have been. Still bothers me, though, especially because of how good our other dogs always were.
