Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.
I don't remember what her reason was...maybe it was just cheaper that way. :)
I think it's a great idea, although I'll leave it to better minds than mine what to get them as a gift. Also, we need to find another chaplain to "adopt".
Thanks for all your tireless efforts, 2J.

TTT Extended Edition? ROTK Pics?
5/27/03, 1:51 pm EST - Xoanon
Natalie sends along some photos gleaned from an unknown source, they show Faramir in Osgiliath, Aragorn in a heated battle and some nasty Orcs. But are they from ROTK or the TTT Extended Edition? Who knows! [More]
Ecurbh- I will freepmail you more information about these files (pics and an html). You will need to format everything so it looks good on the pages. it would be best if the pics lived elsewhere as I will be moving in the fall and don't know what will happen with my current account.
OT- the Frodmeister is on his way. Sorry it took so long, he should be arrriving around Friday.

"Is this Mordor," Frodo asked. Rooftops covered the hills like a blanket of gravel.
"Almost," answered Lil. "This is Suburbia on the outskirts of Baltimordor."
Frodo looked uneasy. "Are there orcs here?"
"Some of the children are mistaken for orcs. They wear grungy, ill-fitting clothes and wander around in packs making mischief. But have no worries, Frodo. They're still in school." Frodo checked his sword to be sure. The blade was sharp and bright and showed no glimmer of the telltale blue glow that indicated orcs were near. But Lil spotted a yellow school bus in the distance. "Care for some dinner, Frodo?"
"Always," the hobbit cheerfully answered.

Waves sloshed against the shore in a gentle, musical rhythm; the water of the Chesapeake Bay was a curious blend of murk and blue sky. A thin line of trees in the distance marked the other side of the inlet. This had long been the realm of Men. They gathered food from the estuary, built villages and cities on its shores, fought battles, fell in love, lived and died.
Nearby Lil and Frodo came upon some ferocious machines at the Ordnance Museum on Aberdeen Proving Ground. "What manner of wizardry made these?" wondered Frodo.

"Worse than wizards, my good Hobbit, this is the work of Engineers! These are the machines of war and also of peace."
Lil and Frodo continued their journey southward along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Just within the borders of Baltimordor was a small bit of land jutted out into the water; upon it was the ruins of a star-shaped fort.

"A great battle was fought here, one so ferocious and dire that the men inside the fort almost lost hope. But the great flag never fell and the men prevailed. It inspired the anthem for a nation." Lil hummed a few bars.

"It is a magnificent flag," said Frodo.

"I've never been in a wagon such as this. What kind of creature pulls it?" asked Frodo.
"It is yet another of the Engineers' machines and runs on electricity. It travels very fast and even goes underground. "
"Let us hope they did not delve too deeply," said Frodo.

Security is tight in the great capitol city of Washington, DC. Indeed the security detail at the White House Visitors' Center became impatient with Frodo's refusal to relinquish his sword and would not allow him to pass through the metal detector. Instead he suffered the indignity of riding the conveyor belt through the x-ray machine. The insult was quickly forgotten as Frodo became fast friends with a variety of flat Presidents.

"It makes me think of the great towers raised by the Numenoreans of old. The man it honors must have been great indeed."
"He was one of the Fathers of our country and the first President: George Washington," answered Lil.

"And in this house lives our current President, the greatest of our time."
After admiring the White House, Lil and Frodo jouneyed to the southern borders of Washington, DC. When they reached the Potomac Lil waved a fond goodbye to Frodo as he continued on his way to North Carolina where Overtaxed lived.
Yes and no. The Hobbit is an excellent introduction and provides you with details you will need for LOTR.
But what you do not have in The Hobbit is the depth of the story, the depth of the characters and the incredible symoblism of the story.
Don't give up. You won't regret it.
Had to be. All the wagons washed away...
...still raining...
Of course most people would just replace the string and get back to work instead of getting back online...
Of course I've...cough...got an excus...er reason for not replacing the string on mine yet...yeah, that's it....Actually it's been too wet to weed whack...
drawfs?
The part where he finds companionship with the flat presidents gives me full out belly laughs... And I just love that he saw those places... It makes me smile picturing you standing him up in front of the white house, and in front of a tank.
I got back to work eventually! - But my rhythm was all messed up!
Are you near a YMCA? You could purchase a Student Membership for not TOO much money, then go in as often as you wish.
I took Clare and Joseph in this week and got them trained on the Nautilus machines. Now, when I go in for my Hydrobics class, they go down to the Weight room, and do the treadmill and Nautilus stuff. That gives them twice a week to get some exercise and muscle training.
