The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It's gorgeous here today...I stained my deck this morning and it's already dry! (If I don't put this house on the market, at least it's had the mother of all spring cleanings). Everything will dry out today (here comes the dry spots in the lawn...)

Give me Luvs or Huggies anyday!

LOL! I tried to be eco-responsible with our first two. I didn't use disposables unless we were travelling. When the 3rd came along, I had a diaper service for a while, then did them on my own. In order to get them to where they didn't give her a rash, I had to wash them, then wash them AGAIN without detergent to get any soap residue out of them. I realized I was being worse on the environment by using all that water, than I would have been by dumping the disposables!! So I moved to the plastic ones and never even looked back!!

I now use any old cloth diapers I have left as cleaning rags, but after 14 yrs. there are precious few of them left!

I'm applying for federal wetlands money...

They don't pay you for havin' wetlands.... they just don't let you do anything about them.

I figure since my ride is past now, it won't rain agin till Sept. when I go on another one. Today is beautiful here. I got all my mowing done. Mack bought me a riding mower this summer, and I can do the yard and what little pasture I have in about 3 hours. Use to take me about 3 days. It's wonderful.

Steve got me a push mower a couple of years ago for my birthday. It is a great mower, but I swear, he got the biggest mower he could get and I can barely push it!

Last summer I was having all kinds of irregular heartbeats and I decided this summer, I'm just not mowing. I laid it on Steve a couple of weeks ago when he asked if I intended to mow the front yard any time soon...it needed it! I said "No, I'm not mowing again till I have a riding mower!"

Just had a big hawk stop and rest a minute on my pasture gate... Till Gidget rushed him and he flew off screeching. Cool!

You want "big hawk"? How about this guy. He's sitting on my bird feeder, three feet from the window. The picture is a bit fuzzy because of three panes of glass, and because I was so excited he was still there after I ran to get my camera. Definitely a surprise lunchtime visitor.

Well I am about half done with the Hobbit.

I realize it is NOT LOTR, but I am beginning to see why I have never read these books. I am sorry to say to this crowd that it is doing nothing for me. Never been big on fantasy of this kind.

Is LOTR much different?

BTW, how in the world does this thing get classified these days as a childrens story. Good heavens, it's a lot more violent then Bugs Bunny ever thought about being and he is considered violent. Don't get me wrong...I never thought Bugs was violent, but this book is even making me think it's a bit much for kids.

Well that's my critque so far. I am struggling to keep on, but I will.

Get an exacto knife and cut it out!

Print it on T-shirt thermal transfer paper, and iron it on! :)
