Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Snakes are good to have around a compost pile... got plenty of those around... seen a bunch out by the heap and the barn... seen a six foot blacksnake on the place a few times...
the locals call the ridge that runs thru our homestead "Rattlesnake Ridge"...ain't seen any yet, but two weeks ago a neighbor kilt a seven footer on his porch... lots of copperheads around too, but I only seen one... he ain't with us no more...

Good morning!
Hope everyone had a good weekend! We had a cookout on Sunday, and were going to have another on Monday for the brother that missed the Sunday one, but got rained out...so we broiled steaks in the oven and pan fried bratwurst and had that with green beans and plenty of fried onions. Good.
Sunday evening Dad, my sister and I went to a concert: Johnny Cunningham, the fiddler from Silly Wizard, and an INCREDIBLE musician in his own right. I knew within the first minute that this was the best fiddler I had EVER heard in person. I can't even describe his playing. GORGEOUS tone...just lovely.
What was really, really wonderful is that this was a tiny, sort of impromptu concert in a tiny little church. He broke his left wrist last fall (we were supposed to see him then, but it was cancelled and we never heard why!), and this was something of a comeback concert. We were in the very middle of the second pew back, not fifteen feet away...so we could hear perfectly and watch his bowing and fingering.
I am soooo lucky sometimes!

Just had a big hawk stop and rest a minute on my pasture gate... Till Gidget rushed him and he flew off screeching. Cool!
