The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

OMG -- I really have to get ready to move!

Yikes!! Good luck with the moving preperations. I don't know if I could get set up to move that fast. We're thinking of moving this time next year to a town about 20 miles away, and I'm already starting to go through stuff to pitch things.

Clare's Girl Scout troop is having a yard sale in two weeks, so I hope to get a bunch of stuff ready by then for them to sell to raise money for the NY trip. We're staying in the Hilton in Times Square, and we're gonna see "42nd Street" on Broadway!! Woo Hoo! I hope Flat Frodo will fit in a large backpack so I can take him lots of places in NYC!

I think it'll be a bit complicated...but they're all of a sudden like moving so fast that I think I'll have a bit of negotiation room. I think they checked my references out and got a big earful (I have to thank some people for that) and decided to snap me up if they could.

Do you think you'll be able to wrangle some moving costs out of them, as part of the deal...?

Okay, first off. I have not heard any news all day. I need updates on what's going in IN TEXAS regarding these dems. Any word on whether they're going to have to face charges when they get back to Texas?

Now, reporting in:

I got to the Holiday Inn at Ardmore this morning at 10:30. I was the only one there to represent either party. Several news vans were there though. As soon as I stood on the sidewalk and held up my poster a photojournalist from DFW started taking photos of me standing there. Soon I had several news cameras turned on me as well. All by myself.

Then a lady with a local channel here in my town came up and asked for an interview. She seeemed surprised that I was from here. Especially since I was the only one there.

I talked to her. I think I was shaking a lot. Before I was through, another guy from there in Ardmore came walking up with a sign. He was on our side. Whew. So, then there was another TV station come up and ask to talk. We both did. I can't even count the number of reporter types I've talked to now today. But, you guys in Houston might have heard me on Edd and Mike's talk show on 700AM late this afternoon. Me and Joe.

So, there ended up being only 3 different people from Texas stop in during the day. But one was very uplifting, a college student (senior) at Oklahoma State was on his way home to Plano after finals and heard the news as he was packing this morning. He showed up with an awesome T-shirt "Ardmore is not Austin" and I forget, something else good on the back. And a 2-sided poster and he even got interviewed by the BBC! He was on his cell phone calling all over for the next couple of hours telling friends and family members he was interviewed by the BBC. Aside from the Texans though there were close to 2 dozen Oklahomans supporting us that were there at various times during the day. :-)

I digress again. I'm tired. So, we saw very little of the renegade legistlators. Mostly just driving by in their cars. One rep from El Paso came over and had his picture taken with us. He said "You do realize I'm one of the people your sign is about." (duh, i might have bleached my hair blonde dude but my brain's still here or i'd be supportin' ya.) Anyway, I said, "yes I do, and I'd like to ask you to please consider going back to Austin and fulfilling your duty to Texas and the people you represent." he said that's what he was doing. dumba$$.

There were only 2 supporters for the dems out with signs. Sadly, they were also from my town. But, they were peaceful and stayed on the other end of the parking lot. BUT, there was one really loudmouthed obnoxious lady (???) from Houston that came out of the Holiday Inn and really behaved badly to us. Yelling, being ugly etc. At that time there were 5 of us there protesting. It seemed we each took a turn trying to shout back at her, and I strongly regret stooping to that level. But, done is done. And I did not stoop to low language or actions, only trying to be heard above her. However, during these confrontations with the uhHUM woman, news crews with cameras were having a field day. Can only hope this does not get edited in such a way as to smear us.

At 5 this afternoon the Ardmore republican group had arranged a rally in the parking lot as well. I ended up staying for that. I have made some lovely new friends - well aquaintances and among them was freeper RoseD!!! YEA!!

I am going back tomorrow. These guys have vowed to stay there until Friday. The GOP in Ardmore and some counties in Texas are having a rally at 1 tomorrow afternoon to last ???? I may actually even take Myranda out of school at about 11 and take her with me. The little elfling is very politically informed herself and can't wait until she can register to vote the 12th of next month. (although she will be in Germany then, she says she is looking forward to registering as one of the best things about turning 18)

okay, i'm sure some of this was repetitive and some things have been left out. But, I'm pooped and will cover any clearing up as I sit here, rest and catch up hopefully.

Finally, thanks for all the prayer and well wishes from the Hobbit Hole while I went and did this. I love all ya'll.

Oh, I forgot. My sign was just the Real Texans Don't Run. But the first guy that showed up from Oklahoma had 8 other good signs. A couple of them were great. The best said "Top Fugitives 1. Osama bin Laden 2. Saddam Hussein 3. Texas Democrats

ROFL

One of the reps showed his face to be interviewed by some journalistic talk-show type. He walked by that sign and said he was highly offended by us. And particularly that sign. He didn't like being grouped with murderers. The guy that told him the title was "fugitives" and he is one. That's what you are when the law enforcement officials in your own state are waiting to arrest you when you go home.

All I heard is that the Texas GOP lady wants them prosecuted for having closed legislative debates....or something. I'll try to find the thread.

Yeah, I expect that such consideration will be easily doable. But it's the complexity of the dern thing that's mind-boggling more than the money aspect. It's always complex when you are selling one house and buying another, but doing while I'm starting a new job...brrrrr.
