Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Gidget needs tranquilizers at fourth of July, so I understand. I just knock her out. I have enough to contend with calming the horses!Have you tried the old cavalry trick of feeding the horses closer and closer to gunfire (or fireworks)? They'd tether the horses way behind the firing line, put on the feedbags, and then have target practice. The next day, the same procedure, but the horses were a bit closer. Finally, they'd be fed right behind the firing line, while everyone was blasting away with rifles and handguns. After that, the same method was used to accustom them to having the rider firing while on their back. (Maybe earplugs for the horses would have helped).
Nice pictures of the horses working. You're a lot more coordinated than me. I don't think I could take pictures with one hand while longeing with the other.
The boys are up and totally wired. They say they are hungry (I did feed them!) and I wouldn't have the heart to pop up some corn with them saying they are hungry and then not share...so I'm going to log off and eat with them. Steve should be home soon anyway.

Yep, I'm catching up on the chit chat. I think it's a shame I don't live closer to you. I would
so like to get to know a horse someday. But, I don't think I want one.
And I saw some mention of Rhett and southerners, I'll have to go check that out in a minute.
As for the entmoot timing, for me, don't plan anything other than Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
I have lemon balm multiplying profusely!!! I love it!!!
ksen, checks in the mail. okay okay now say "oh sure that's what they all say."

You know, OT at least needs to get them to pay for her to visit KC so we could moot. Speaking of, is there still a location there for her to work? It's probably already been discussed today - I'll catch up eventually.

We have a great chaplain don't we? I love his notes!

Actually, Bay does real well with gun noise.... One of the trail heads I use is right at the gun club, and saddling and riding out, we have to go right by, and he ignores it. Gun club, periodic single fire noise is OK....
The stuff that freaks them out is the stuff that goes zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! or the popopoopopopopop of someone say, shooting off a whole package of firecrackers. It is the noises that last longer or build in intensity that are the problem.
And the 4th really wasn't a problem last year... I gave them some Quietex and put them in their stalls. They were listening, but fine. The year I had the trouble was the year before the stalls were built, and all they had was the lean-to shelter, so I couldn't close them in. They were free to run the pasture, and as you know, running kind of feeds the fear and I really got worried they were gonna run a fence. I literally stood out in the pasture holding the pony from 10:00 till 1:00 am. If I could keep her from running, Bay didn't run either.
What happened was that since there are trees everywhere else, the neighbors all aimed all the rockets over my pasture as the only open space. And the store next door had people stopping to shoot stuff off while they bought more beer. Now that I can close them in, I don't worry so much, except for concern that they will set my pasture on fire if it is dry.
So I hate the 4th of July, and have ever since I got horses. Love Independence Day, but personal fireworks have always scared me, and now I can say it is the horses, and not me!

Well, all, I'm going to bed. I, uh, have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning that I'm slightly concerned about, so those of you who pray, if you wouldn't mind mentioning me tonight... I just need peace of mind so I can sleep, really.

She's cute! Looks like she has cocker in her, no? I can't remember what combo you said she is.:-) She's a long haired dachshund. You really can't tell very well the way she slithers along the floor when she has attention. Can't complain. She likes me. Which is more than I can say for my students. :-) (being time for finals and all.)

FWIW I think it would be easier on the flying mooters if we schedule from midweek to midweekIt seems that flights are cheaper if you fly on Tues. Wed, and Thurs.

Prayer has been said. Peace. The God kind - not the 70's kind.

You're a lot more coordinated than me. I don't think I could take pictures with one hand while longeing with the other. Funny thing is when I am focusing the camera on the jump and waiting for the horse to come around and they just stop! Or go around the jump, because they can tell I am not paying attention. HA!

I don't like Hugh Grant. I don't either! I really like Sandra Bullock but I haven't gone to see Two Weeks Notice because Hugh Grant makes my skin crawl.

I meant to tell you the other day, that Smeagol is a cutie. I love it when dogs slink toward you on the floor like that!
