The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I did not convert my professor, but if she does convert, she'll be a Calvinist ;)

She won't convert, Jen. She sounds like the type that wants to stay in the Church, but then try to change it to suit herself and her lifestyle. She and her ilk don't like being reminded by Church teachings that the activities in which they engage are sinful, so they want to 'change' it so that the Church won't teach that anymore. They don't seem to comprehend that it isn't the Pope or the Bishops making these things up. God gave us those rules to live by, and I don't think they're going to change HIS mind!

I'm getting a new kitten. She's only 4 weeks old right now. I have to wait until she weighs 2 pounds before I can get her. I'm naming her Smeagol!

We saw "Frontier House" and enjoyed it a lot, although the families were somewhat annoying. We didn't see "1800 House", but I suspect "Manor House" is more like that one. Basically, they have these people living in a Scottish manor, circa 1905. It's amazing how primitive things were even at that relatively recent time. There is lots more information at the PBS website, http://www.pbs.org/manorhouse.

That's cool, John. Our older boys have been involved in LARPING for several years. Their weapons are made with thin wall PVC pipe (difficult to find) and foam pipe insulation. I've made many a cape and tabard over the years for them. They usually have lots of fun.

When our #2 son comes home from college, he's going to take the two younger kids to the North/South War that's held up in New Hampshire every year.

Well... I was walking by a bush and I heard this crying. There were two little kittens. Probably 2 days old. No mother around. So, I took them to save them, but I couldn't. The lady who was helping me had an abandoned mother with 4 kittens...

It broke my heart when the kittens died, so I told her I would take one of her orphans.

It was a spring festival and people would leave baskets of flowers on their doorsteps.

Isn't there some sort of custom that folks would make 'May Day' baskets or nosegays and secretly leave them on their neighbors' doors?
