The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'll be there! I just don't know when. It could be late-ish, or maybe I'll get up early and stop in before breakfast.

Hiya Hair. I like how the chapter in Chicago, the Murder Captial of the World, has taken The Desolation of Morgoth as a name.

Sorry I got here too late to chime in on the First Communion question. Those comments I read here were correct, that it usually is for second graders, and, in the northeast US anyway, was usually a private family holiday. The Hispanic cultures often do things rather differently than the largely Irish derived Catholic US culture though, was that true with this one. I hope that you had a good time.

Saw your involvement the other week in the Civil War thread. Didn't you have enough fun in the religious wars?

May 1st - May Day - was a holiday in Europe centuries before communism. It was a spring festival and people would leave baskets of flowers on their doorsteps.

If I'm not mistaken, May Day was originally the celebration of a Druid spring fertility rite (thus the flowers). Naturally it became Christianized over the centuries!

Five posts are a funkle, and a funkle isn't really an award, it means everyone has left and you are still talking!

Druids are better than Communists

I was reading The Gallic Wars in high school near the height of the Cold War (1958-59), this brought me to the conclusion that the Druids WERE Communists.

By the way, this book showed that the ancient Romans knew what to do with Gallic arrogance even back then!

Actually, the government in Florida has contingency plans to restart the Key West to Havana ferry route, and advance plans for a Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel type crossing to Cuba.
