The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I read PAYPAL authority.

ROTFL!! That would have been quite appropriate for Mass this morning. The Parish did it's first pitch for the annual Bishop's Fund for Charity and Education collection!

Here are pictures of the house repair we did yesterday, where the leak desintregrated the siding. We finished it except for painting it the same color as the house...which I might not even do. I'm wanting to paint the house here in a year or so...so I might just paint the area the color I want the house to be then! It's painted "bamboo" now. I want more of a rich cream color. I do have it painted with exterior primer, now.

This is the area, cut away and insulation removed.

Note the white substance under the yellow insulation? That's chemical supply grade boric acid...to keep the insects out.

Here is a picture of Steve adjusting the siding into place.

Yes, the white ones are still white...the red ones are a mess, total "play shoes". The white ones are used for other things other than play.

Well, I'll tell you, Catholics might be ok with it but you might get some odd looks at a Presbyterian church!

I hate to tell you this Jen, but in Texas and other parts of the south you can even find a Presbyterian church now and then that rocks.

Oh, and I had a side of fresh asparagus from the garden. Mmmmm!

Oh my gosh!!! You have fresh asparagus?!? That's one of those things that I've always wanted to try to grow but never gotten around to. It would require planning you know, for something that is going to live there more than just this summer.

Charistmatic Catholics? Wow. I never knew they existed.

Many Catholics don't either. Some that do know about them, think they've gone off the deep end. But I'll tell you, you've never been to a more praise filled Mass, until you've been to a Charismatic Mass! The homilies are not 'fluff' either; they're straight to the point!

SSQ's brother is a priest and is the Pastor for a 'Covenant Community' of Charismatic Catholics in Louisiana, though he's full time Pastor of a Parish in S. MS. The community gets together once a month for Mass, and they live close to each other (except for him) so they can support each other in whatever ways are needed.

I'm sure you can... I've been to a more... well, loose PCA church. But never heard anyone shouting "Amen!"... or swaying in the aisles. It's almost too bad. And nobody but my family will wear a hat!

Charistmatic Catholics? Wow. I never knew they existed.

There are large congregations of Charismatic Catholics in several cities here.

Clare does like Japanese pop music. That's why we got her an MP3 for Christmas, so she can listen to stuff she's able to download from the Computer.

What is a Charismatic Catholic service like? Plays up-to-date music and such? Have you been to a service like that?

My entire family on my side is Assembly of God. They consider me "sedate" by their standards and it's the only time that label could be applied to me! LOL

I love going to A of G worship though...we had a joint worship a while back...did I tell you about that? Where our churches "switched" churches and we all got together to praise God for the event! It was awesome!

And the church I played my whistle in with that really large guy was a little tiny Assembly of God country church. They wanted us to come back so bad, but it's 2 hours away!

I think SuziQ will probably answer that momentarily. The one I went to was in Venezuela and was in Spanish. I have to struggle just to keep up in a conversation so the service was over my head except that the music was upbeat, sounded more like ummm... I forgot their name for it, kind of Carribean dance music, not salsa exactly. But it was the same type of music that was very popular with the teens and tweens there at that time. We played it at their birthday parties and things. The people moved with the music and danced a bit, but not as much as we do sometimes. It was a good praise service even when I couldn't understand.

Maybe. It's gorgeous here, but believe it or not, Matthew has to get ready to go to church for his presentation!

I'll see you all tonight.

Wonder where Hair is?

It is a stunningly gorgeous day here in these climes...Hair is like most the rest of us here: Gone outside to look at that strange bright, round thing that's suddenly appeared in the sky, and wondering what cosmological significance it implies.
