Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I love that picture, although am wondering why the artist has Boromir still looking so tragic.

Anyway, "Blackhawk Down" was on one of the stations last night and I caught the last half of it. I was reticent about watching that as well. I finally rented it a couple of months ago. I thought it was an excellent patriotic presentation. And, yet again, it ticked me off at the Clintoons. But, then, I think that needs to happen from time to time. And hopefully it might bring a few undecidedses to their senses. especially if i say the right thing at the right time when i know one of them has watched it.

I do want to check it out.Do! It's worth seeing!

LOS ANGELES -- Lord of the Rings fans around the world are eagerly awaiting next winter's release of The Return of the King, the final instalment of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic trilogy. Meanwhile, one person intimately involved with the project has had an advance peek at a rough cut of the film and he is already suggesting that director Peter Jackson has created a masterpiece. "I can tell you that having seen The Return of the King, it is a great film," says Canadian composer Howard Shore. "It is amazing." Shore has the mammoth task of creating a musical score for all three sections and this places him in a privileged position because if he is to do his job properly, he must see each movie well in advance. "You're ultimately dealing with a nine- to 10-hour film," Shore explains. Furthermore, music is an ongoing part of the creative fabric. "You're creating a large musical work, a 10-hour piece, using all the Tolkien languages." Shore, who began his musical career with the legendary Canadian rock group Lighthouse, won an Academy Award last winter for the score he composed for The Fellowship of the Ring, the first movie in the trilogy. He's been spending hours watching Return of the King and in the early stages he doesn't even think about putting notes on paper. "It's the beginning process because you just want to absorb it and feel something about it. Then comes the more technical process. How does the music relate to the film? What are the tempos? What are the colours?" Once the composing is done, the performance and recording aspect takes over in London with Shore conducting the 100-piece London Philharmonic Orchestra and a 100-voice massed choir. © Copyright 2003 The Province

Yes, Bloom played the soldier that fell and broke his neck. It was hard watching that film for me, not only from the sheer tragedy and desperation of it, but because so much was going on that without a whole lot of knowledge of its military significance, I was pretty lost by it. Not to mention, I was not all that impressed by Josh Hartnet's role...seemed like a mini-reprisal of his "Pearl Harbor" role. It seemed a bit offbeat from the main story, that he would be 'socially conscious'...as it were. Anyway, I got mad just from the sheer devilry of it.
I love our military men and women...but not because characters like that Josh Hartnet character, who seemed to whine about everything. Because these men were BRAVE and CONFIDENT and HIGHLY SKILLED, despite the snowballing situation.

Ian gets to play a girl.
Actor Sir Ian set for panto role
4/24/03, 2:35 pm EST - Xoanon
Ian McKellen is set to turn from a sir to a dame for his latest stage role - as Widow Twanky in Aladdin. The Lord of the Rings star has always harboured an ambition to play a pantomime dame. [More]

that's just sick. not surprising. but, i'm politically incorrectly disgusted not that he has the acting ability to play a female but because he wants to and all the underlying whys. ugh.

When I was a toddler, my mom used to put me on a cable run when we went camping, so I didn't wander offDang! I shoulda done this with our youngest! He was the family wanderer!!

I just got done with Bear's paperwork...I was hoping to speak with my neighbor about him, to get some better information about him...but I'm so mad about her letting him get heartworms that I can't approach her.
So I just answered the release as best I could, claiming ownership. I also made a donation.
He's resting quietly after his treatment...in a holding area to keep from getting a blood clot from the dead worms. Argh...my blood is boiling.

The hardest but also useful language to learn would be Japanese.Clare is teaching herself Japanese! I got her some textbooks and workbooks, but at this point she's learning by listening to Anime without subtitles and reading Manga untranslated!
I told her to knock herself out cause I didn't know from Japanese!

Boromir IS a tragic figure.

I saw a 15 minute sneak peek of X2 on HBO last night. It looks like it is going to be pretty good.
