The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I've been bad lately, so we're sorta hovering between the 45-50 lb. range.

But ALL my pants are loose! Fortunate for me that I'm not a skivvieless Gondorian, because when I loosen my belt, if I'm not careful, my pants will slide off.

Not that that's always a bad thing...

Thanks guys. I am relieved too, really. I am just glad that he didn't get any of the drug in her, so we were not beyond the point of no return.

It was horrible to have her fighting and whining. It did not feel as right as it did with Logan. Course, she has always been a terrible patient ;~D comes from the cocker side of the family.

Part of me wants to LMAO about this. I tried to kill my dog, and she weaseled out of it. What a drama queen.

Have a pint or two. Watch a good movie or two.

This can wait for another day.

Ooooh. We always want our critters to live to a ripe old age, but when that time comes, ugh, it's really bad.

Sorry that little Zulu is having trouble...this takes so much strength to get through.

Be thinking of you.

Actually, I did have a little chuckle over it! What a fighter!

Well, now you know. If you ever take her in to the vet for this, you can mention this happened and they can maybe give her a shot in the muscle first...or have her inhale something first.

Bless her!

I'm choking up bad for you, and for Zulu. I have been there myself. I'll tell you some other time. You know, some times you think you have it right, by all reason and calculability, and then you don't. It just wasn't Zulu's time.

Hey! It's an hour too early for your departure, Master Dwarf! Who'd you scam to get out so soon?

He feels worse than I do right now I am sure.

I think there was an angel there, whispering "not yet, not yet". There's still more love for you and Zulu planned, along with the sorrow. It just wasn't meant to be, today.

Glad Bay is okay, too.

I'm hopping out early for Secretary's Day! Oops! I mean Administrative Professionals Day! Yippee!

Has political correctness gone far enough yet?

oh God - it isn't over!

I decided to clean up again and inspect her legs, to make sure there wasn't swelling that was critical.

She's wobbly. She did get some of the drug. I am on hold with my vet. I need to take her in. What a disaster.

The lady was just back from Hong Kong. Eeeek

Had they quarantined her? A guy at SSQ's work had to be quarantined along with his wife and new little adopted girl when they returned from China last week.

Nice snaig for Zulu!

I'm not sure about cuttings for rhodies. What color is yours? We have a couple of the pale to med. lavender kind in the front yard. I'd love to have some of the white or bright pink kind. If you have some vermiculite, take a cutting and put it in the vermiculite in a little pot and keep it barely moist. I've even wrapped it in plastic wrap to keep it moist until the roots formed when I've done cuttings.

Wneighbor can probably tell you more, though.

I'm way down here in Texas cheering for Zulu. I know this just means more heartache on you later on but I can't help giving her a standing ovation for hanging onto life.

We will deal with this again later and we'll all be standing behind you again. Till then, can you forget the anguish part of today and stick with that running around the yard happy part? I hope so. It sure got to me and I don't even know her in person.

What about starting rhodies from cuttings?

You mean rhododendron? The way you do that is to bury the stem of a low-hanging branch and wait for it to root before you cut it from the main plant.

I don't know the answer to this one. I haven't worked with them. No advice where I don't have and answer.

And for most things I just do kind of a generic cutting technique using rooting hormone and putting them into soil. But, then, I don't have more than a 50 to 60 percent success rate. Of course, I also experiment a lot.
