Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good snaig- beautiful dog.
Just got an email from hubby- apparantly there's a SARS case in the hospital in Bel Air, MD (about 15 mi down the road). The lady was just back from Hong Kong. Eeeek. Too close to home.

I actually usually have Diet Dr Pepper (1 per day) which has 55mg. Is that a lot? That's a significant amount. But you're not doing too badly if you only have one a day.
Just make sure you're also drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day.

It looks like you flushed the thread, Corin. ;)

Thanks for the ping to the Toronto thread, 2J.
My boss is aware of it, but I do not know if he can get out of it.

I thought the Moose thing came from Lazamataz who I think first said "A moose just bit my sister", but I don't know *why* he said it!Who knows why I say anything.
But the Moose/Sister thing is from MPatHG.

Hello, can't think to ping everyone so everyone just include yourself If I missed you OK?
Welcome to my nightmare!
[sigh] Zulu, Bless her heart, is still alive.
When we were finished with Bay, I brought the vet in the house, and we laid a towel out that Zulu would be wrapped in, and I picked her up and tried to get her to lay down, but she was struggling, so I held her up with her head to my chest and tried to help hold her leg out.
The punch line is, he couldn't find her little veins, and it was a disaster. The vet tried really hard, but it hurt her, and she struggled, and I would try to just hold her head tight, and calm her but there was no use. The first leg got too bruised, and he tried the second leg, but her veins are just so small, and she was so scared, she never was the best patient anyway, but especially not now. He doesn't treat dogs, he's been a horse vet for years. Horses have really big veins. He poked around and poked around and she cried and fought and I cried and held her and eventually he looked at me and said... "I don't think I can do it". I was happy to have him give up. She and I had both had enough.
I let her go and she went tearing out the door running around the yard. Glad to be through with that abuse, and full of adrenaline I guess. The vet and I just watched her go.
I don't know what to do, but I am not doing anything right now. I said to the vet that I wasn't gonna do anything today, he admitted that it would be better to wait until her legs heal a bit where they are bruised from the needle.
She is fast asleep now. She fought for her life and won. Just took this picture.

I have not been around here much the last few days (deathly cold, I got and spending all of what little energy I have on the big job search launch), but what has happened to little Zulu???
Hair, this sounds terrible. What's up?
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh...I suppose it doesn't help for me to say this, but I'm relieved! Sad that you (and she) had to go though all that today, but happy to hear she's still with you.
I know she hasn't been well, and I know you'll probably go through this again in days or weeks...but maybe today isn't her day.
She looks so sweet in that picture, poor little gal...what a darling!
To: HairOfTheDog
I don't know why, but I am grinning at that pic of Zulu!
But I can't imagine how hard that was for you! Fighting to hold her down for that injection must have made you feel terrible!
Zulu wants to spend a little more time with her mom.

Well, that is about as sad as anything. But everyone is here for you and with you, fwiw, Hair.
Jeanne and I were such basket cases when we had our lab put down last year, so I know what you are going through. But at least we were not acually there with her.
If I had to dig a grave in my yard here on the ridge I'd probably need dynamite, the bedrock is right to the grass almost.
Poor Zulu, maybe he will stay around just a little.

I'm sure there is something appropriate to say here, but darned if I can think of what it is.
Zulu's got some spunk in her yet. We're thinking about both of you.
To: HairOfTheDog; ksen
If it helps to get your frustrations out, I wouldn't mind if you whacked ksen with a stick...
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Hi Scott, I had finally got up the courage to have her put down today. She has just been so miserable most of the time she was awake. I was waiting until I got mourning Logan behind me, and this opportunity came up because the horse vet needed to come and see Bay about his swollen *ahem* (which is all better now by the way)
I asked him in passing when I made the appointment Monday if, while he was here, would he be willing to put Zulu down. I was ready to do it. I told him that I understood if he didn't want to, because his is exclusively a horse practice, but he said he was willing to do it. I don't think either of us thought it could go wrong. I don't really blame him, he wanted to do it for me, he just failed to do it. He feels worse than I do right now I am sure.
