Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"That's after they'd answered to us, of course!"
Ha! Jeanne told me before we even got married that I wasn't even to be rude to her. 'Course I don't want to be (mostly). But I am nearly as hard headed as she is, which is saying something.
OTOH, the Mom that I grew up with could shoot a shotgun, rifle and pistol very well, and did often. After Dad died, she slept with a .38. She also was a better fisherman than most guys, and loved that too. But Dad was good at all that stuff also, what with having been in combat in Europe.
Man, 1948 seems like a long time ago, I can't even remember that far back, only to 1950.

Woo Hoo! It's Friday!

Morning OT!
To: Sam Cree
Morning!
And now for the bad news: I still have to do taxes

I got a letter from the chaplain today. He got one of the five boxes I sent and apparently got the sunscreen too. Thanks for the update! Good to hear they're enjoying everything. Thanks again for doing all this!

But then again, he is well aware that I know, as a nurse, exactly where to smack a cast iron skillit on his head to keep him in diapers the rest of his life. LOL! I'm reminded (once again) that I do NOT wanna tick you off! ;-)

If you go for fencing though, remember that while it doesn't need to be tall or strong, dachshunds like to dig! ;)Yep, that's my biggest worry! I think what I may do (whether I fence in an area or put in a kennel thing) is to dig down several inches and put down screen or chicken wire, laid flat. Probably wouldn't have to do it except around the perimeter. That way if she started digging, she'd hit that and stop. Wouldn't feel nice, if nothing else! I'm still thinking of the best way to do this, though.

Instead of a full fenced in yard, could you buy a small 'run' for them?Well...trouble with those is that in general, I would have to take them to it. I'm hoping to build something that they can get to on their own, eventually - put in a dog door and such. I did some talking here yesterday and with my brother last night, and I think what I'm going to look into is putting in a sort of "play yard" - not fence in the entire yard, but just the corner of my property that runs from the side door to the front right corner of the house as you're looking at it:
Just that one corner, see? It would be a decent size (as I've said before, this picture makes the yard look a lot smaller than it is, I suppose because it's flat), and I could put a little gate at the end of the path that runs from the door to the road (not really visible in the picture, but it's there!).

And now for the bad news: I still have to do taxesMe too.

Happy Birthday, Hair!!
To: RosieCotton
I think I should have a couple of Irish Car Bombs before I start.

Might make the forms easier to understand, if nothing else!
To: RosieCotton
Yeah...I could send the forms in smelling of whiskey and with my signature falling off the line.

Wish I was there. Well, at least yer shine.
Seriesly Sam, we wish you could be here too. We'll have to schedule a Dwarf session (or two) for Entmoot, tentatively titled "Dwarves and the Wimmin who Love Them."

I could put a little gate at the end of the path that runs from the door to the road (not really visible in the picture, but it's there!). Make it like an arbor or garden gate. You can landscape in front of it and put some climbing plants on the arbor. After this discussion that's what I think I'm going to do next summer. I'll do the rail fencing with the mesh inside to keep the dog in. At the end of the driveway I want an arbor for grapes and a gate. I'll have to put a gate large enough for a vehicle on the other side.

And now for the bad news: I still have to do taxes. Wife and I still have to do my m-i-l's taxes this weekend. Tried to install Turbo Tax on the new computer, but it wouldn't let me without buying a new license. I'll just hook the old one up on the kitchen table and we'll do 'em there and mail them.
To: All
Whoa! Have you guys seen the "new" profile pages?
To: Corin Stormhands
Okay. If I do my taxes without corrective lenses, can I claim the blind exemption?
To: Corin Stormhands
I think I've been overtaxed since before Nov. 1999.
To: Overtaxed
Works for me. I got SS#'s for the cat and the dog...
I wonder if my m-i-l's cat has her SS#?
