Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Too much excitement and a gaggle of 14 year old girls is not a good thing. **shudder**
As much trouble as Jr. gives us, everytime I see a gaggle of middle school girls I thank the Lord above that I have boys.

The Comcast people can walk you through how to set it up. Well, actually they said "you're screwed Dude."
That's my major problem with them as an ISP. The guy said the only way I can transfer them is to reconnect the other computer, then forward them to myself. What a pain. I'm gonna check the Microsoft site and see if they have other options.
I'm thinking if we're buying a new printer, might as well be a laser printer...

Oh - what are you trying to move? - Your address book and mail and stuff? I think if you turn the old machine on you can export that stuff to disk and import it.

I think if you turn the old machine on you can export that stuff to disk and import it. Do I have to reconnect to the Internet? I'm gonna have to set it up again tonite anyway. Mrs. needs to print stuff for school.

Depends on what you want in a printer... I have a nice office grade color inkjet fax/copier/printer (
hp officejet d135 all-in-one (C8375A) specifications - HP products). It was about $500, but I do a lot of high volume printing and copying so I needed that.
I wouldn't give up color for a laser printer. The quality of the inkjets is pretty good, and I would hate to go back to black and white when color printers start at around $100!

Not to just copy your old mail and address book files off, no. I think you can export them to to a file and move them via disk if reconnecting it is a problem. I use Outlook instead of Outlook Express, but I think OE would have similar tools.

FABULOUS report Hair!! I wish I knew of a way to attend events like this...they never seem to happen in Houston though...maybe with his doing the Storm of 1900 he will show up more often...
which by the way, it pleases me to no end he is doing something on that...for those who don't know, there is a book called "Isaac's Storm"...if I remember correctly the storm of 1999 was essentially a benchmark in meteorology as well as the devastation a storm can exact on an area. The gentleman, Isaacs, was someone who tried to predict oncoming storms, and if I remember correctly had been working with the Galveston officials in getting out information...I only skimmed through part of the book when I visited the museum there in Galveston this past Christmas.
I love Galveston! I hope Astin features stuff about The Strand (yes, named after the one in England). Galveston was the 'Wall Street of the South' before Great Storm.
I also bet he is going to have one of the major figures, Rosenberg, in there. The little town that sits right next to Richmond was named after him. He was a RailRoad tycoon.
Anyway, thanks for the report Hair...I've been an admirer of Astin for a LONG time...when I heard that he and Wood were going to be the lead characters in LOTR, my instant reaction was "BUT OF COURSE!!" I knew they would be excellent, and they are!

I wouldn't give up color for a laser printer. No, if we go laser, we'll go color laser (which makes me think I'll be looking at another inkjet)
To: Corin Stormhands
Can anybody recommend a good (and reasonably priced) printer?Rose sez, "Check with Dell." They're shipping their new printers now.
To: HairOfTheDog
Hair, may I post your report in my blog?

I've sorta looked at their site. I may be less patient with that and go buy one locally tomorrow.

"we'll go color laser"
Are those affordable now?
To: Sam Cree
Are those affordable now? Prolly not. That's why I said (we'll be looking for an inkjet)...

SC: that's a good story; Especially the part about you doing a "Spencer Tracy" with a swordfish and open boat (well, sort of).
To: osagebowman
I never did get a swordfish, but guess I'd have to have made a point of it if I'd named my kid after one.
I did catch lots of sailfish out of that boat though, and have taken the open boat I have now to the Bahamas and gotten blue marlin.
However the boats have been some nicer than the one Spencer Tracy was using, mine usually feature a cooler with beer at least.
To: Alkhin
Certainly Alkhin, If it is interesting, you can post all or part of what I said about the event!

Hair, I think you have been traveling dark places again.
Just got done watching Horatio Hornblower save the day and make his superiors look rusty, all while showing off the most marvelous uniforms. And he's cute.
Sigh... is it wrong to watch movies mainly for the very cute actors?
