The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning all! - I had to make a run to the vets office this morning. Don't worry! - No one has died. Yet! But after Wednesday you can call Logan "Logan of the NINEteen TOES".
The little thumb-size tumor on Logan's toe that has really been there for a year suddenly became a big problem, grew rapidly in the last day or two, and last night, finally split open. Yuk. Dang. With 20/20 hindsight, when we looked at it a year ago, I should have taken it off then. At the time, I thought he would die of something else before it became a problem. Funny thing is, even when it was all blown up, it doesn't hurt him. He is either very stoic, or there just aren't any nerve endings in it. But now it will never heal and has to go. The vet said he is in terrific health otherwise, so when I do finally take Zulu in, Logan will not be going too. Not yet..
I guess the tumor has outgrown its blood supply, and the tissue is dying and then abcessed. That is why it blew up now. On Wednesday he has surgery where they will take the tumor and one toe. Until then he is on antibiotics.
Here he is all wrapped up! When I change the bandage, perhaps I will capture the abcessed-tumor-toe too, for your viewing pleasure!

So for today I both failed to go with my friend to her dog show, I also missed the rally up at Fort Lewis. :~(

So...last night we saw Lúnasa in Lebanon, NH...and they were totally AWESOME, in the true sense of the word. Just incredible! Definitely one of the best concerts I have ever seen, tied for first with Nickel Creek, I think, and maybe even better. Their CDs are great, as you know, but I was STILL blown away. I think they really picked up on the crowd, and it was a super enthusiastic crowd...they practically had to hush our applause after each song. ;-) If you have a chance to see them, DO!
Then we hung out for awhile after the concert and got to talk to them some about music and such. Every single one of them was really nice. Kevin Crawford (the flute / whistle / bodhran) player is a total ham...really funny. And Sean Smyth (the fiddle / whistle player) was so nice to my fiddle playing sister...talked with her for a little bit and really encouraged her, plus signed her ticket with a note saying "Nice to meet you", which totally made her day. We got home at about midnight, exhausted but happy, with tunes still playing in our heads. Also bought one of their CDs that we didn't yet have and listened to it all the way home.
Oh, and it was tin whistle heaven. I guess I should have known it already, but I hadn't realized that THREE of the five play whistles. They had quite a few songs where they had all three going at once, perfectly in unison at times (even the ornamentation...wow!), and kinda weaving in and out of harmonies. Really incredible.
Did I mention I liked the concert?
Suzi, I think they're playing near you tonight. Were you guys going? I can't remember.

Looks like Zulu is concerned about Logan. Was she glad to have him back home?

Suzi, I think they're playing near you tonight. Were you guys going? I can't rememberThey're playing at the Somerville Music Hall in Cambridge. Unfortunately I can't go. Been battling a chest cold for the last two weeks, plus getting SSQ ready for a bidness trip to CA. I wish I could, and you just reminded me that I missed the Celtic Soujourn today, and I think Brian O'Donovan was going to have them on his show. I think I can catch it on their website, though. I'll go check that right now!
So glad you were able to meet the band. It is so much fun to meet the performers. We met Tommy Makem after a performance at a very small club in Westboro once. Even had Irish Coffee afterwards with his opening act, Tommy Sands, at the home of the friends with whom we attended the show. They are from Ireland, and it turned out that our friend, Hugh, and Tommy Makem were from the same county and had friends in common. Small world!
To: SuziQ
Yes, she gets very worried when he is not around. They have been together 15 years! That is why I considered for awhile, when the time comes, putting them both down together. But Logan will be more OK without Zulu than Zulu would be without Logan. Logan is attached to her, but really, he would go home and be happy with any stranger on the street! Logan was a year old when I got him... and Zulu would have been two then.

HOD: Just checking in, glad that Logan is OK. Good luck keeping the bandage on :-), I'm sure your friend and freepers understand that family comes first.
btw, loved the photos of the horse and pony, didn't realize they laid down like that to rest.
Susan is brushing Samantha as I type this, and Sammy is thoroughly enjoying herself, however it is hard work being groomed that way, so she just slid from standing to setting to laying down in one smooth boneless movement.
BBL.

she just slid from standing to setting to laying down in one smooth boneless movement. Very picturesque! - I have seen that happen!
Logan is so far leaving his bandage alone, but I know if I left him, he would tear it off and lick at that toe... He would make it worse. So I couldn't leave him for the day. Our poor rally got HAILED on I fear, there have been hail and gully-washr showers moving around all morning! If they stuck it out, they are to be praised for their stamina!
And I know my friend understands, but she could have used the help.

Hi, you guys, just left the rally on US 1. If Miami is any indication, very very few Americans are siding with the socialists (call themselves anti war) on this. I am deaf from all the constant horn blowing on the 6 lane highway in support of our little freep.
I went down there because Ruthy shamed me into to it, but it was lots of fun. Met more freepers, which was great, including the Banana Republican, Luis, also several more. Ruthy knows them all, but she found even more that she didn't know before, she's very outgoing.
Was a good time.

Hi Sam!
It was so awesome seeing you out there! *grinning*
I don't have time to catch up right now, so I'll be back soon. See everyone later!

I didn't make it to their concert. It was a dark and icy night. :(

Look! I'm back! Had some fun today...
My debit card came, so I can make certain purchases online now, as soon as I activate it. Wow, I feel almost powerful.

Hi Sam. Just got back from our freep in Raleigh. Pretty good crowd. I didn't see any trolls but I think CD saw a grand total of two. Howlin went around introducing me and some would say "Oh,
you're Overtaxed!" so now I'm wondering what it was that I posted!
De123 turns out to be a pretty good speaker although I liked Congressman Billybob the best. We had a lady whose family left Iraq there, and several republicans gave talks. Although both US senators, the governor, and members of both the NC senate and house were invited, no dimocrats showed (suprise, suprise!)

Fun is good!

It was a pleasure meeting you Sam, as well as the rest og the FReepers in attendance.
Was that some rainstorm or what??
