The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I am not boycotting it, but wasn't planning on watching it either.

Morning everyone, a quiet day here so far. Maybe folks are at church.

Except for the couple behind us that kept talking during the flick (my dad and his lady friend) it was fun!

Yeah, but did you keep turning around and saying, "Pffffttt"!?

Morning everyone, a quiet day here so far. Maybe folks are at church.

I realized about 3:30 yesterday that I didn't have to serve Mass tonight, so we went to 4:30 Mass yesterday.

Clare and I are fixing to go sell Girl Scout cookies at a local store with her troop. I'm almost over my cold, so I'll go and chaperone them. Today is GORGEOUS! It's 45 now, and going up to just above 50. It looks like its going to be warm all week, and on Friday, the high is supposed to be 58!! It will be great for our 'Grits and Magnolias' party!! At this rate, there may not be much, if any, snow left in my friend's front yard!! And we'll definitely need the sun hats and sunglasses!

How is it in FL today, Sam?

Morning. To tell you the truth, I'd rather watch Casablanca. I can watch the movie and chat at the same time.

It's warm and beautiful, rained a little yesterday, hopefully that will help calm down the pollen. All the resurrection ferns have resurrected.

Say, have you got a recipe for the way they cook grits in Charleston, SC? I have always been indifferent towards grits, but not those, they are great, the way they do them there.

At one time, Southeast FL was not so "New Yorkized" as it is now, and there was a popular dish here called "grits and grunts." A grunt is a common saltwater panfish caught here that grunts like a pig when caught (and I suppose while swimmning, too).

Good luck with the cookie sales.

Are you sure you actually need hats and sunglasses at that latitude? :-)

Good Morning. We have rain here with a high of 60...which is better than rain and in the 40's. It's supposed to rain on and off all week with highs 60-70's.

I am pretty much a fan of Bogart, too. Maybe I ought to rent that one some time soon.

Well, I am good and furious at the French right now.

There are alot of comments about what lousy soldiers they make on FR at the moment. But Dad fought alongside them during WWII and his assessment was that they were pretty good, if less good than the Germans. Maybe those 2 "Free French" divisions that De Gaulle and LeClerc had were exceptions, though. The rest of them surely made a complete hash out of the first part of that war.

I may not have watched the movie in 20 years or more. I think I remember it ending at an airport.

Yes it does. Claude Rains dumps a bottle of Vichy water in the trash.

I did turn around and one point and yell at them, when we had turned the volume up as much as we could stand!

Good afternoon!

It's a beautiful day. Church was wonderful, my parents are back and happy... if my computer would only work properly I would be delirious with joy...

Is it anything like a croaker?

In reality, it's probably a lot like here. The most obnoxious ones get the media attention.

Just like we're not really hearing from the Iraqis who are hoping we get rid of Saddam.

LOL! Having never been to Charleston, Sam, I'm not sure! Can you describe them somewhat? Were they creamy? There is a Garlic Cheese Grits recipe that I've always wanted to try, but never have. Give me some hints!

Sigh... the power cord is acting up and the battery is dead. I have to hold the cord at a particular angle or - no power. I only have one hand for surfing and typing, and it's my left hand.

We did ok with the cookie sale; didn't sell as many as we did at the grocery store last week. Last week, whenever we'd see someone come out with milk, we'd ask, " You want some cookies to go with that milk?" This week, we brought a sign that read, "Got Milk? Need Cookies!"

Oh the sun gets mighty bright up here; we'll definitely need the hats and glasses. My friend's house faces East, so at 10:30 in the morning, it will be nice and sunny!
