Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That is pretty cool that you have got your liberal friend defending Bush. He might not be too liberal too much longer. But, RE the Dixie Chicks, I wonder how he might feel about the liberal campaigns to boycott Rush, Dr. Laura, and Mike Savage? He must feel that political opinions are an appropriate form of free speech.

I have a very close and old friend like that too. He thinks he is now a conservative, but really, his leftist ideals will never leave him. Mike always thinks the government should arrange everything. At least I have convinced him to like Charleton Heston.

I am pretty impressed that you almost need a new belt.

Can you get magnolia leaves where you are?

No. If I knew how to preserve them, I would get them from my sister. She has several Magnolia trees in her yard. The closest we have up here is a Japanese Magnolia which has beautiful purple and white flowers that almost look like lotus blossoms. The leaves on it are a paler green and not as large.

I just love that deep glossy green and the cinnamon colored fuzzy backs of the Southern magnolia leaves.

Do you know how to get info from Williamsburg about preserving the leaves?

DOH! I should have paid closer attention to your post. I'll check out the Colonial Williamsburg site to see if they have any info on preserving Magnolia leaves.

I wonder how he might feel about the liberal campaigns to boycott Rush

In his original email on the subject, he says that although Rush bugs him at times, he would stand up against anyone who advocated his removal from radio.

In general he is more of a moderate than a full-blown liberal. And part of it is his family history. His dad is your typical MN liberal who would vote Dem just because he always has, and even used to do yard work for Hubert Humphrey.

Evening all! - Home from my beach house visit and LoTR marathon on brother's big TV... Except for the couple behind us that kept talking during the flick (my dad and his lady friend) it was fun!

2J - Hope you had a nice birthday, and I hope 40 is as good as 39! They remembered you on Chifandfipple, they are being nice to you now, so you can't leave them I guess!

Well, I will be watching the Oscars, I love a carnival too much to boycott. We won't win the fun one though, I suspect, so the oscars are not really a 'must see'.
