The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You will have to read them for yourselves!

He did call Elrond "Elrond the Lecturer" and he thinks Aragorn looked a bit like he needed therapy, but he liked them!

Our little one's surgery is scheduled for March 10. That was the soonest we can get him in

I'll put him on our Parish Prayer Line, Corin!

I'd forgotten how much I hated the changes PJ made in the Two Towers movie!

It's a great movie, if you never read the book. But I was disturbed but the changes. The ones in FOTR seemed necessary, but in TTT, it seems more gratuitous. I can only hope that it makes more sense when the last movie comes out.

Considering all the respect for Tolkien they showed in the added materials on the FOTR DVD, I can only hope they did a lot of soul-searching, and reading, to justify the changes they put in this time.

I like those characterizations. Elrond does lecture, because he's lived all those ages and seen everything, he can be used as a plot device to give those lectures, and fill us in. He needn't look constipated about it, though.

And "Aragorn needs therapy" is right on. As portrayed, he's on the ragged edge. Spending most of your life in a secret guerilla war tends to do that to you. He doesn't have that "thousand yard stare", but I would not want to yell "ORCS!" just to see how far he'd jump.

Star of the County Down is the same as one of the hymns on Starkindler

It is also the same tune as "Divas and Lazarus", which I first heard on a Ralph Vaughn Williams CD of his orchestral arrangements of British folk tunes. It is also on Yo Yo Ma's CD, "Appalachian Waltz", and it is called "Star of the County Down" there. It is a lovely song!

Si Bheag Si Mor

Oh, one of my favorites! I first heard this done by Planxty. They used to play it on the Sun. night folk show on WHYY in Philly during the 80's.

That is an excellent piece, Hair. I agree with every word. But, even as hamburger, I give it a 9 out of 10 ;^)

Hi everyone! I'm still alive!

I'm busy running up to Seattle everyday for career counselling (interesting stuff, if only I could put it all together...and if only I had the slightest idea what I wanted to do next!).

Gonna take up most of my next two weeks. At least I may have a plan (and a clue) when it's all done.

Friend of mine from my now former workplace got the extended edition FotR for her hubby for Valentine's Day. They're having a blast with it (they threw the LotR party that I went to at Halloween last year as "the windy elf").

Elrond would make a good professor! And Aragorn doesn't need therapy, just... um, a bath.
