The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I missed it last night. Husbands and children do sometimes make liars of us. I came home to a clean and vacuumed house, a beautiful display of red roses, to which they had scarfed some fern leaves and some aloe vera flowerings from the back yard and added to it. They said it represents -- the fern for the wet times, the 'cactus' flowers for the dry times and the roses for the love of all times. Oh, and two bottles of a delicious chardonnay, Clos Du Bois or something, with which I gratefully washed down the dread of a bad week at work. I'm just now getting going this morning, er, afternoon.

Have the movie on, and enjoying it as the guys have all gone fishing.

I just loved the pictures of Frodo in the plants!

Sounds like a great evening MBY. SSQ and youngest son bought little bears, a single rose and a Valentine's balloon for Clare and me. We don't go in for big Valentine's gifts, so I made Seafood Gumbo for SSQ (his favorite) for supper. I wasn't feeling so hot, so we just lazed around and watched the first two episodes of Band of Brothers on DVD. It was very good, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

Well, tubing in the south is definitely river-related. But I realized you were talking snow as I typed.

I am moving a little slow today myself. Haven't cleaned stalls yet, going to do that after I have a nap!

My friend came by to get her dog and we went out and had a big breakfast at the truck stop. I am full and sleepy now!

I was just thinking how much the Oscars and the United Nations share a blatant irrelevance.

Hi! I'm Baaaaaack!

Well it didn't rain which was okay with me. Here's a link to wimpycat's write up: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/843160/posts?page=28#28. Mykdsmom and Constitution Day took pictures and I expect they'll post them in a bit.

They had barricades between us and the "other" protestors across the street from each other with police officers in between. (Mounted police were on our side of the street.) The only thing that happened were people yelling at each other.

Actually it was pretty funny. Some peaceniks would start up with this "we love you" stuff but by the end they were wanting us to go get killed in Bush's war. To which wimpycat yelled: "But I thought you loved us!" Hehehe.

At the most we had about a hundred people....most of them non-freepers....which we thought was pretty good for something organized only two weeks ahead of time.

After the freep we went to Tir na nOg for some pints and food...of course. I'll point you to the after freep report when it comes in.

Oh yeah. We had some folks walk by and ask us if we had a website......Hehehehe......

Mykdsmom's report http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/844251/posts.

Pictures to follow. (You have to see Constitution Day in his Saddaam mask and "Fry Mumia" Sweatshirt. LOL)

Yum! Truck stop breakfasts are just the BEST! One thing I like about driving when we go down South; especially when we're driving straight through, is that I can stop in the middle of the night at a truck stop and always get something good to eat to keep myself awake on the road!

I just read Wimpycats report. a "Fry Mumia" t-shirt!! That is SO bad, but SO GOOD!!! It must have really frosted the socialists BIG TIME!

Thank you for going out there and being one the street to remind Americans that their voices ARE being heard over the chatter of the socialists and elitists in the media and academia!

OT: Hey, glad you made it back safe and sound and had a good time; Freepers are quite a bunch.

The biggest two laffs we had during ours were a PETA group protesting in front of Alaskan Furs, it was too cold for their usual antics so they wore swimsuits and held the sign in front, lasted about 15 minutes. The other "high point"(?) was getting "mooned" by a passerby but the digital camera memorialized the posterior for posterity and was posted on FR.

I think ours got canceled today on account of weather, scraped the ice off the windows of truck but not much else stuck, roads still fine.

SQ: and a big ol heapin of grits, amazing number of MO folks simply don't appreciate grits, well, just more for us (when we can get 'em)

Well, rather than get involved today, I guess I got into hermit mode instead. I haven't even watched the news! I know that doesn't help our president, but perhaps there is some other gesture I can make.

To top it all off, I just watched 'Signs' on Pay per View. I hadn't seen it before! - I put it off! I pushed the wrong buttons and ended up on the PPV channel where it was just starting. "What the heck" I said. I am in a really atrange mood now! - I guess it was meant to be!

Oh yeah!! I read all the time on threads folks are busting others for putting butter and sugar on their grits, but I've done that since I was little! My Daddy used to love to have grits in the morning with whatever meat was left over from the night before, either a fried pork chop, or some ham or beef roast. He sure did love his grits! He also ate his sometimes with butter and sugar, and he was a good old MS redneck for sure!

I've never put sugar on grits. Butter, red-eye gravy, or just salt.
