The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Gidget LOVES FoTR!

The little black dog by the door is my confused guest-dog.... a friend's pup. She can't figure out what Gidget is so interested in!

Am I the first poster of the morning?

If that's the case, and if RMD doesn't mind, I'd like to take care of breakfast this morning. Ruthy, take a break and sleep a little while longer, I've got it covered!

Let's see here...how about some western omlettes (cheese, ham, peppers, onion, and of course, mushrooms!), 3 kinds of toast - rye, wheat, and white, and a big plate of nice crispy bacon. In the beverage department I've laid out orange, apple, and grapefuit juices, coffee (regular and decaf), and a big carafe of hot cocoa for you non-coffee types.

There's also two plates of sticky buns for those of you that are "on the go".

With that taken care of, onto the post:

Ok, I don't normally do this, as I don't enjoy sounding like a shill, but for those of you with PC's (which I'd assume all of you have, since you're reading this!), you should seriously consider the LotR; FotR PC game. Never have I seen such a fantastic piece of work before. Of course, my opinion is highly biased, being a fan and all, but still...this is quite the game!

I'll spoil it a little by telling you this; the number one thing that impresses me the most is that the game follows the BOOK, and not the movie. It's refreshing to see a group actually give homage to Tolkien's writing, and not just mass-produce something for the "movie fans". The game pays respect to artwork created for Tolkien's writings, and I was impressed that the characters look nothing like their movie counterparts, (ex. - Aragorn's ranger outfit is green & brown...not ninja black), AND it uses quotes and dialogue straight from the book. (ex. Frodo screams "A Elbereth!", before stabbing the Nazgul in the foot.)

I haven't gotten past Moria yet, as the Balrog (with wings!) is currently kicking my butt - but here's what I have seen thus far - Crickhollow, The Old Forest, Old Man Willow, Tom Bombadil & Goldberry, Nob, Bob, and Bill Ferney at Bree, Galdalf's fight on Weathertop, and Glorfindel (Frodo flies to the Ford all by himself!).

As I mentioned yesterday, Amazon.com has this game on sale for $20, with a $20 rebate. Net cost to you after rebate - $4.97 for shipping.

For your consideration...

Good Morning, Hair!

Well, I saw you had come in and left again in the revolving door.....

I'd get to the part where it says it's logging me in but I didn't see anyone in the chatters list and nothing I typed showed up.

I saw several things on Amazon, but nothing indicated as being "on sale". Could you give a few more details? Thanks.

You can try this link, but I don't know if it will work, since I have cookies on their site:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006FXJG/qid=1045319013/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_etk-vg/102-1092700-9872926?v=glance&s=videogames&n=468642

If it doesn't work - go to www.amazon.com - search "Video Games" for "Fellowship of the Ring" - it'll bring up the X-box, PS2, and PC versions.

Don't you have to get the TurboTax stuff to get the rebate?

Nope. The rebate is a printable document, just print it up, and when you get the game, send it out with the packing slip and the UPC code from the game box.

I pinged you here to show you the link about the Pro-America rally in Texas. Aren't you from there? I wanted you to see it in case you could be there.

Oh, ok :'). I'm in South Texas. I was supposed to be with the Houston freepers today but something came up and I can't get away.

Thanks for breakfast guys. Nice to meet yall. CD

Nice to meet you too! I'm getting ready to leave for the Freeping of Raleigh this afternoon.

Hair, your favorite troll will be there. :)

Thanks for the suggestion about the FotR game, IOTN. I've added a link for it to my site. It looks like the rebate is only good if you also buy TurboTax, but if you do, you will also save a few dollars on shipping (all orders over $25 ship free).

Buy it at Amazon

Go get um :'). Yall be careful though. Some of these people are really mean. You hear about them but I never really understood until I attended an Austin freep how many "touched" people are loose on the streets.

It was a Friday-only sale. Now back to $19.95. That's the story of my life, a day late and a dollar short.

I'll still probably get it, based on your recommendation. Thanks.

OT: drive careful and enjoy the Freep; We had four of them in KC at the Nichols Fountain at the Plaza during the 2000 "Dark Times"; You might try to round up some freepers to deal with driveway speed bump.

Keep a look for a couple of good ol'boy freepers driving up in a 4X4. I understand that they come with a chainsaw and tow chain as standard equipment. :-)

I saw the aftermath of the CatholicGuy thing. JR was basically tellin' Polycarp to take a hike. That's just a weird place over there.

Thanks for breakfast Seamus. Did Ruthy tell you how large a "plate of bacon" should be?

I'll hold off on the game. I'm not installing anything else here until we upgrade.

And very early on in the view too...having met Gidget I have the feeling that well before the Prancing Pony, she was curled up on something comfy and snoring away.

Hi, Corin, how's it going? Waiting for my daughter to pick me up for lunch. It's 3 degrees outside at the moment, but clear air, visibility unlimited.

Looks like a lot of weather is headed toward you, though.

I got a pair of boots, too difficult walking through deep snow in topsiders, not to mention the slush where they have put (tons, I think of) salt on it.

I love the pictures!

The storm last night was really nice...a little pea-sized hail, but nothing really severe. A bit gusty as the front of it went through, but otherwise just a delightful storm passing through.

However it is a precurser to the spring storms that will start next month. It won't be unusual to get sustained winds up to 75mph gusting up to 90mph. That's when the high anxiety will begin and will be around for about 3 months. The tornados that devastated the OKC a few years back happened in May.
