The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Someone help me rationalize going out and buying that FoTR extended DVD now.

Oh c'mon. You really don't want to see a whole extra 30 minutes of FoTR, do you? And you really don't want to have 2 additional disks packed with so many goodies that it will take hours to absorb it all. And, of course, I would never dream of encouraging you to buy the super-dee-duper deluxe edition with those really heavy, finely done, WETA-designed Argonath bookends and extra National Geographic Middle Earth Special DVD!

WN, are you still here?

Well, my son is well trained, and he will grow into a knowledgable young man. So he won't have to eat the books, but there are a few other men I wouldn't mind seeing that happen to.

You're making me have goose bumps. WalMart is only 7 blocks from my new house.

Yea! I love those well-trained kids. I read the Hobbit to both my girls when they were 6 or 8 years old. The first kid waited before she was interested in the trilogy. But immediately upon ending Hobbit, the youngest said 'What about those other books. You said there was more.'

Mine won't have to eat 'em. Not even my son-in-law, verily, he is a middle-earth connoisseur as well. I'm a very blessed woman in that respect.

Wal-Mart is only a few miles from my house...I'm going in a few minutes for some late evening shopping without the boys.

I'm already exhausted from the mall, but I'm running out of time and the tree looks awfully bare underneath right now!

Walmart.com has the collector's extended edition listed for $58.94 and it is usually much less at the physical store. :)

YOu definitely are. My 11yo daughter now wants to read "the lost tales" and other writings of Tolkein's.

Has she read Silmarillion? The unfinished stories make more sense after you know Silmarillion.

"Wal-Mart is only a few miles from my house..."

I'm trying to look on the bright side every time I can about my new home. One of those bright sides is... I used to have to drive 24 miles to WalMart. Now, it's 7 blocks. haha.

There's a mall closer too.... but, I don't even want to think about that. Normally I don't do malls. But, I actually went to the mall for myself on the first time er at midnight Tuesday or shall we say Wednesday morning.... to see some movie or other at 12:01.

The mall was worth it that time.

Yeah, I told her that. She is stubborn, just like me. Currently she is reading everything written by Joan Aiken. But after that, we have the Silmarillion ready.

oh oh. Do you think I should go to the physical store just to SEE what they want for it there?

I could just go see you know.

My grama never buys my Christmas gift until I get there. She always lets me pick it out myself.

Maybe I could er um go ahead and get it and save her the trouble.

Sounds like a bright young lady! I read LotR and Sil at about that age. It was a nice change from Heinlein :)

Well, I am getting excited. My bosses have been making fun of me all week. Asking me what day of the week it is. When am I going to see the movie, today we got into hours. So I am getting revved up here... 17 hours to go. Listening to the soundtrack. After a few sitcoms, play FOTR all night.

Faramir changes his mind a bit abruptly. I think it would have been more compelling to see a more conflicted Faramir deciding to take Frodo back to Gondor but torn in his mind and heart about it, revealing the differences of his character from Boromir's.

Yes, the change seemed abrupt, but considering Faramir had witnessed Frodo going up on the wall in full view of the Nazgul, seemingly under the spell of the ring, and the talking to he got from Sam about how Boromir had fallen victin to the ring, I can understand how he would then be reluctant to take it to Gondor. Since Sam told them of their intent to throw it into the fire of Mount Doom, he knew that if they survived and were successful, things would be better for everyone.

I would never encourage such extreme behavior! :)

I saw it for $49 at the Walmart by my house! The regular Extended Edition (w/o bookends or N.G. DVD) was around $23, if I recall correctly.

I could have, but I held off because I don't like crowds. My one boss suggested I take off the afternoon and go see it Weds. But work has also been busy this week. We have a million new things going on, and keeping track of them for the guys is a nightmare.

I went to the opening last year, and couldn't sit with my kids, it was so crowded. And, I was off to the side... miserable.

There is only one theater showing it here. So I am hoping the 11 am showing tomorrow will be nice and quiet. We haven't went to a movie here with more than 30 people in attendance.

hmmmm. We're having telephone wars here now anyway. Perhaps I should get off the net and let her use the phone and go to WallyWorld. Boyfriend calls seem to come before mom's lite entertainment.
