The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Don't know why the double posts keep happening today. It's already done that to me and Hair both.
As far as Entmoot, you can fly in and I will be checking for shuttle service from the Melbourne airport. As far as getting around town, I would be happy to let you carpool with me to the events. :)
To: JenB
ksen will have to answer the question about what airport... I haven't gotten far enough in my planning to ask! You can probably rent a car... except they will want a credit card. Hold off on worrying about it. We can porbably coordinate as a group so that not everyone rents cars. I am a big fan of using hotel shuttles and cabs in strange cities. It keeps me from having to know where anything is ;~D. I may rent a car for part of the trip, because I plan on staying extra days to go to touristy stuff like Disney and Epcott.
To: HairOfTheDog
Maybe I can fly in Thursday night, hang out Friday, do the stuff Saturday, and leave Sunday night. That would only be one day off....
Well, it's a year away. Lots of time to decide!

Hey, I just found TTT on one of the newsgroups. It looks like it is probably a camcorder version (which can be anywhere from awful to not bad). Downloading part to test it out....
To: JenB
Hey thanks for the welcome.
I'm not actually an engineer. I'm the lowly designer. But, I've been senior for several years and been very successful in my field.
Yep, we're more like geeks in the engineering department though. Blessed aren't we?
Anyway, what I was talking about with the displaced mom comment is that my youngest daughter graduates this May. I'm also single so I'm coming up on a new kind of phase in my life. My baby daughter will be leaving to go to school back home in the fall. So, I could kind of "mom" someone if needed. Uh, not that your mom could ever be replaced. But, if my baby were going off that far....... I'd be concerned. Sorry. Don't want to sound condecending. Just been mom for too long.

Well - I bugged out on going to the Christmas party. I am afraid I left an awfully whiny message on my boss's answering machine. Oh well. Can't take it back now.
After horse dinner time, I better go shopping tonight! I am starting to panic!

Let me know, burgler!
To: Wneighbor
Oh, I understand! My youngest brother is seven so my mom has a number of years before she gets an empty nest, but she has a hard time letting us grow up. She is happy that I am a semi-productive member of society, though. Even if I do still live at home...

2J - what handsome young gentlemen!
And I laughed out loud at "leave to your discretion" comment.
What's wrong with rubber chickens? :)
To: Wneighbor
ROFL!!!!!!!!!! Oh that was my take on it too. Like the book was adapted from the screenplay. I see it happening already.
To: JenB
:-) I can sure relate to your mom. I am so proud of my oldest daughter. She's 27 and just a wonderful mom etc. But, I still have all those little mom concerns. She and my son-in-law and grand-daughters are in Germany now.
When they first married they moved to Florida. I was concerned because she was too far away for me to visit often and all that. So they got bathed in those "mom prayers." But, then, they moved to Germany and I had to step it up again.
To: HairOfTheDog
Well, it's on the "not bad" end of the scale. Picture is fairly clear except for when it is pretty dark. Sound not really distorted. No subtitles (the first version of LotR I found had Japanese or Chinese subtitles.)
I always HATE going to company parties, so I usually bug out on them. I mean, socializing with people I work with - might as well be at work.

Can you see me forcing grown men to eat books?
To: All
I just let my daughter open the DVD player I bought her for Christmas so I wouldn't have to carry the large package all the way south for the holiday and then lug it back again.
We don't leave to go home till tomorrow. Someone help me rationalize going out and buying that FoTR extended DVD now.
To: ecurbh; HairOfTheDog
So when's our first view/chat of TTT? I'll spring for the disks!
To: ecurbh
Hehe, see, the advantage of an office with five people is that "Christmas parties" don't happen. And the socializing thing.... well, Dad's easy to talk to. But the nerd is annoying, and the sales guys are, well, sales guys.
May we never get big enough to have a party!

Can I? Really? We could sell tickets and everything.
To: Wneighbor
Sure! You daughter has to check out her DVD player to make sure it works perfectly, right? And how better to check than with a brand-new DVD, so you'll know any problems are the player not the DVD!
