The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Morning all;enjoyed the pictures of the 3M; lots of snow in the parking lot. looks like 2JM will be watching the snowfall with her coffee this a.m.; another I-44 snowstorm, but a light one from predicitions. We're on the northern edge, doubt we'll see any of it. partly sunny-cloudy, been working on some baseboards, old yellow pine, rasped a miter joint and a bit more this a.m. should get it looking good. After being in the house 25 years, we're going back to redo some of the things we did way back when, lol. Sure learned a lot over the years, all the school of hard way, btw.

See you all this afternoon, I'm running out the door to church now. Nobody do anything bad while I'm gone - save the fun for me!

Good Morning!

Hmmm.....what should I do today? More yardwork? Watch qualifying, or tape it for later?

Hullo! - Good morning! - I am up and the horses are fed!

So you are remodeling the original remodel of your house now? - Scary! - Our beach house was so much work I don't think my Dad can really think of ripping into those walls again!

Good morning Overtaxed! Can you watch the qualifying and just tape the yardwork for later?

See ya later Jen!

HA! Indeed I say HA! We have about 3 hours of snow on it's way and it's being snowing heavily since about 7:30am! In less than 2 hours we half already almost 3 inches of snow and it's falling fast!

The weather lady (Miss Chin, I think I've mentioned her) said we'd get a dusting, the roads wouldn't even accumulate. HA!

We are home from church anyway...decided not to go. Joshua has a cold and couldn't have gone anyway.

It's gorgeous though...I took pics but I can't download them onto the mac...

This is it for me, though...I got to see the 3M pics and am tickled to death with that.

Coffee is gone.

Good Morning! Just put on a second pot of coffee. Guess I'll tape at least part of qualifying....or maybe I should just forget about the trees.

Wildlife habitat. Yeah...that's the ticket!

Still....those branches would make good firewood and kindling...except for the pine.

2JM: lol, I wondered how Amarillo could have 8 inches and OK would only get 1 inch. Ship a little of that this way, especially if it is a wet one, even if I did just wash the truck.

Hair; well, the house was built in 1903, the second owner remodeled in 1928, third owner turned into apartments in about 1953 or so, we bought it in 1976 (it was pretty rough by then-"you're going to live there?!? lol". So for the next 8 years we did it. Style is American Four Square. We love it, well worth the work.

OT: Racing? Daytona?, If you follow the stock cars, KC has a new racetrack. "Cars going very fast, mostly turning left"

Yeah...I know they have a race track.

According to the TV Guide it lasts from 1 to 3 and it gets dark around 5:30 to 6. Maybe I can wait until after qualifying.

OT: "Time & Tide..." :-) Building the racetrack was a cool project, there was a historical site at the far southwest end of the project site, we surveyed it and had an archeologist establish the site boundaries and it went into a preservation site. Delaware Indian Mission, from the 1820's. Most all the foundations were there. House, school, mill, outbuildings, even a cemetery. Some of the biggest osage trees I had ever seen. Some were inside the preservation zone, the others that were outside were bulldozed. That was a real shame.

I am glad they didn't rip them all down! I am off to find an Osage tree picture. I don't know what they look like!

That is a shame. I hate it when those big trees are taken out....the healthy ones anyway.

Been cybershopping for electric chainsaws. Home Depot has a Remington 14" one for $46. I shouldn't need anything bigger than that, should I? The largest trees I have to chop are around 14 to maybe (but I doubt it) 16" in diameter.

Ha!

I'm emailing it to the news. A dusting...Ha!

I always liked a 16" chainsaw, never cared for anything smaller or much bigger for that matter. Just my personal opinion.
