The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It was VERY hard not to laugh! If I do laugh, she actually gets angry because she thinks I'm laughing at her. I tell her I'm not, but she storms off anyway.

The bad word thing was terrible around 3 years old, IIRC. Glen isn't the best at censoring himself so *ahem* it took until Becky knew that the word was dirty and ugly to say before she started censoring herself.

All that said, I have heard her mumble "oh crap" when something goes wrong and I know that THAT word is my fault. :(

Why yes!, bless your heart, you were pinged to it - twice! ;~D

I hardly ever go anywhere but the Hobbit Hole these days. Sometimes I check the 'My Comments' page, sometimes I don't. I had been checking it the last few days, though, so I don't know how I missed that one. My daughter will love it!

Redwall, Wallace and Gromit; y'all have good taste!!

And Veggie Tales, and Harry Potter, and Monty Python, and British comedies, and British mysteries, and classical music, and.....

I'm amazed how similar a lot of our tastes are around here. Kind of a comforting confirmation that you're in the right place! ;^)

Who's Jason Connery? Any relation to Sean?

I think he's his son. It has been at least 10 yrs. since I saw the show, come to think of it. If I find out anymore about it, I'll let you know. Maybe it can be accessed on the web.

Sam! Thanks for sharing the pic.... Jeanne's very attractive! I'd love to see what you look like with your eyes open, though. RM, he does open his eyes, right? ;^)

Are your ears wiggling, Sam?

it sees it as a CD-Rom drive, not a DVD drive

Depending on your version of Windows that might not be unusual. Are you running 98?

Not sure why the driver wouldn't be working. I've directed Rose to your post, so she might have more thoughts about it. We should be available for more discussion this evening, either through chat or on the phone if you'd like.

I promise not to medicate myself too much! ;)

I got my system to recognize a new drive and it assigned it a letter, E:. The trouble was that I had to set the jumper to "slave". Now it recognizes a drive, but it sees it as a CD-Rom drive, not a DVD drive. I went to Hitachi's website and found what I thought was the driver (for a GD-5000), downloaded it, tried to install it, but for some reason it didn't work.

Another thing to consider is the BIOS on your PC. If it's older, it might not know what a DVD is. Check and see if there is a newer BIOS flash with DVD support available.

BTW, what brand and model is your PC?

Thanks Bear, I'm running 98SE at home. I'll check in here tonight and when I see you posting maybe we can go to chat and try to do it there. That way if Rose has to direct me to a website I can go there without having to hang up with you.

You can click skip and it will just remind you every once in a while.

I do not believe I've ever registered mine.

BTW, what brand and model is your PC?

It's a 2-3 year old Gateway. I'm not sure of the model, I'll have to look when I get home. I'll note that "newer BIOS flash with DVD support..." ok, got it.

Last night I put MIB in the DVD drive and it started up and installed the DVD viewer, but when I pointed it to the drive it said to please put a DVD in the drive to play it. Well, I DID have a DVD in the drive, so that makes me think it was only seeing it as a CD drive.

Yeah, in his case, elf bashing is appropriate. Jeanne is about to have a fit. She loves her sister, but.
