AMERICA - The Right Way!! (WEEKEND EDITION - Days 686 and 687) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | December 7, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 12/07/2002 4:28:54 AM PST by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

GLOBAL WARNING ACTIVIST ALERT!!

December 7 record low temperature:

Washington Dulles Airport - former record: 18 (set various years)
Washington Dulles Airport - new record: 3 (set in 2002)

Other temperatures around the Washington metro area:

Washington: 21 [not a new record]
Richmond: 21
Petersburg: 18
Patuxent River: 14
Roanoke: 13
Fredericksburg: 12
Charlottesville: 12
Lynchburg: 12
Manassas: 0 [ZERO]

Here, at the cottage: a nice, balmy 9.9

Question for the global warming people: considering that current low temperature records for the day were not simply broken, but crushed, does this fit your "models"? Hmmm?

In the news:

Runoff election day in Louisiana. And what would an election be if it didn't have a Criminal Party vote buying scandal? Landrieu is accused of trying to buy military votes with $10 Thanksgiving food gift certificates. The claim is reported in The Washington Times, and comes from Gen. George Peyton Cole, Jr., retired.

North Carolina has activated the National Guard to help storm victims.

And one of the hottest toys this Christmas shopping season? A talking President Bush doll. The Daily News reports the doll says "17 powerful and patriotic phrases," including:

"Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot shake the foundation of America."

"I will not yield. I will not rest. I will not relent in waging this struggle for freedom and security for the American people."

And what would a President Bush doll be without a mangled phrase? They included: "I will not hold this nation hostile."

Reportedly the manufacturer is also planning dolls for JFK, and President Reagan.

[They are also planning one for UOx42, but it is not clear whether one of the phrases for that doll would be: "I never had sex with that woman."]

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Glad you are back and have power!

I have been following the Louisiana thread, and Landrieu won, as I am sure you heard.

Well, I am off to bed. I will talk to you and everyone else tomorrow!

Time to take my lumps. I blew this call, as did all the others handicapping this race. The 'Sugar Issue' may well have been bigger than anybody thought, which is mindboggling considering it was proven to be a complete lie by the RATS. But I think the reason that Brown Roots pulled this out was whoever decided to sack Lindsey and O'Neill the day before the election took away the momentum from Terrell.

I was saying for the last couple of days that Landrieu needed some last minute dirt or a "December Surprise" to steal the election. The RATS didn't have to do it, because the GOP did it for them. From what I'm hearing, the shakeup, and the 6% unemployment announcement the same day killed Suzie in the end.

Very dissapointing night.

Yep, I'm listening to Mary right now. Ugh. Oh well, perhaps the White House learned a lesson from this election. (I'm not too impressed with Mary.)

Landrieu is an arrogant, Grade-A, rhymes with 'witch'. I'm interested in what the total black turnout was, because the statewide media failed to report(surprise, surprise) the fact that Maxine Waters and Jesse Jackson were both trolling for votes in Shreveport and New Orleans this week.

Whoever decided to announce the resignation of O'Neill and Lindsey yesterday doesn't know how much damage they have done, IMO. Expect Mary to go hard left on Senate votes next year, and I'm not just talking about abortion. She's going to have 6 more years to vote against judges, tax cuts, education reform, 2nd Amendment, you name it.

Yeah, CNN was just claiming that Mary was voting with PResident Bush 70% of the time, and then clarified it was just in the last few months. She will go hard left.

Somebody on Fox was reporting earlier today that O'Neill released his statement on Friday, the WH wanted it released on Monday. I just got home, and heard the news...... I haven't seen the margin of difference yet....

Sugar IS politics in Louisiana.

Forgetabout O'Neill and abortion and anything else. It was all about sugar. Sugar is to Louisiana as red, white and blue are to the American flag. Louisiana Democrats have abandonded party and principle over sugar for as long as sugar was sweet.

Let me clarify: Sugar is to Louisiana...

... as unions are to Michigan.
... as gay is to SF.
... as abortion is to NYC.
... as Marian Barry is to Washington DC.

The mere thought of low sugar duties are to Louisiana...

...like burning black churches...
...like stealing the childrens' lunch...
...like pushing the old off a cliff...

... you get the idea.

The issue isn't "how awful those lies" about a Mexican deal. Rather, it's who let Terrell get blindsided by it?

[Besides, how does a candidate win if nobody knows how to pronounce her name?]

No surprises in Nicollo land. Just sad.

Terrell should have done as Louisiana Democrats have always done. She should have said that the very universe depends upon a sugar duty. She should have condemned NAFTA. She should have called Mexican sugar poison. She should have labelled the Mexican plot a real and imminent threat.

The denials of the plot were weak and stank of Washington. Terrell needed to go local in this one. Washington interfered. Of course, she'd have to go and vote that way, but that's what Louisiana wants.

Bush did right to go and campaign. His people did wrong to depend upon that. Terrell could have been all that AND sugar to her voters. Ambivalence won't and didn't fly on that issue. It's like running a conservative in New Jersey, or California.

Sugar is big in south Louisiana, and the fact that Suzie didn't play up the fact that Landrieu and Breaux were boldfaced liars on the subject definitely hurt. However, up in northern LA, where it's not a big issue, the RATS also won the Congressional runoff in a district that was safe for John Cooksey.

From what I'm hearing, O'Neill and Lindsey getting sacked yesterday really took the wind out of her sails. Coming on the same day as the unemployment figures was devastating. In overnights, there was a 15% drop in Dubya's approval on handling the economy among Louisianans. That is what killed Terrell, and the Pubbie in northeast LA, IMO. A lot of undecideds broke for Landrieu at the last moment. All because somebody couldn't wait 24 hours to announce a shakeup in Washington.

I have to maintain that it was all about sugar. Northern Louisiana doesn't have the industry and it doesn't have the culture of sugar, but it has the feeling for it, and the tradition of it.

When it comes to sugar, even in nothern Louisiana, Washington is either very far away, or all too close. (Both happened this election). Secretaries of the Treasury are abstract. The politics of sugar are in the Louisiana gut.

Your explanation makes sense, ABG. I could tell by watching Carl Cameron interview with Terrell about 10 p.m. ET that the news wouldn't be good.

Does she retain her La office?

FReeping Gore in DC

kay - so glad you're okay and back with us....now if only Dog would get online again.

Guenevere, thanks dear...I'm okay with what I did...just sad and disappointed about the affair.

You better believe sugar is king there, in fact the next time you buy sugar in the store please give thanks to the sugar industry for Mary's win, the 'sugar lie', a deal with Mexico has been reached BY THE WHITE HOUSE, to/wit George W Bush, caused this race to go her way, Sweet and low for me (course I use it now).

The 'old folks section' of our church had its Christmas FEAST last night and it was a great success. Never have I seen so much food in one place, all good no, all great which means several extra miles of walking for me to get it off. Gotta say, it was worth it.

GC6's special crockpot roast, used the injector with a cajun twist, lots of onions, celery, bell peppers, cooked so tender it fell to pieces buy every bite was gone, in fact, the first dish to dissapear.

Someone fixed a sweet potatoE pie WITH pecans and talk about good. In fact, everything was good.

Time for cup # 2 so I will be off and be back in a bit.
