That would work, ML, but take some getting used to.

Congrats to your daughter, ohio.

I just came in from raking and had to wrap my wrist to strengthen it a little.

Ha, ha. LImbaugh just played a tap of Lott calling the President on HS passing.

I'm ready to start my drive home. I stayed an extra couple of hours to try to catch up on grading papers. Still not there, but now it's more manageable.

I got a full-time job offer to begin in January in Murfreesboro which would cut my commute in half. It would be teaching and administrating in the afternoons and evenings. I'll have to give it some serious thought. Could be great, but I wouldn't see Mrs. Mulliner and the little Mulliners so much.

That sounds like an offer to consider, tho.

Jane, I guess that Daschle amendment was the last serious challenge to its passing.

Dog - answered!

That's a big liberal thing. One of my liberal friends does this all the time...and contributes to all the shrill enviro groups.

Hi, there, Neets. Just wanted to drop in and say hello; it's been a few days since I was here. Like the way that you all do the little review of the news in your opening. Thanks for your thread every day. You're a really neat group of people. :)

The Democrat's pitch has changed slightly in resent years. It is not so much we will take care of you, but our success demands that we take care of others. The 40 million are with out health care pitch is a plea to the conscience of those that have health care. It is lets you and me use government and the rich peoples money to help those that need it. It is no longer I will protect you from the evil employer. That is a huge change. And that is what I was trying to document. It will not pull a majority of votes to the Democratic party. Help me make the rich pay for the poor is not that effective at gettting the voters to the polls.

Abortion is not a long term thing. It will have as much public approval in 30 years as smoking has today. In 1960 smoking was still in vogue. Cool people did it in the movies. Abortion is starting to go down just as smoking went down. It will take 30 more years for abortion to once again be a terrible crime. Abortion as a political issue has peaked. It is going the other way. It is like pitching smokers rights in 1980. Religions are very anti abortion. Always have been. Always will be. Evolution is very anti-abortion. It teaches preservation of the species... Die to save your young is the very nature of all animals. Abortion is kill the baby and party again like we did last summer. It will not stand. It is not in our genetics to approve of it.

The same thing with homosexual activities. We have 8,000 years of history. Except for very slight variations man as a species has condemned homosexual activities for 98+ percent of the 8,000 years. It is an evolution thing. Preservation of the species... produce as many offspring as possible is ingrained in the genetics of every creature. We can debate if God put it there or evolution put it there, but we will not be able to deny it is there in all creatures. The object of humans is to make more of them. Our genetics will condemn homosexual activities.

Young people are very attracted to take care of the helpless. Take care of those in need is a lot of youthful idealism. The protected youth see the benefits. They have not learned about paying the costs. Churchill was right. If you are not a liberal when 20 you have no heart. and if you are not a conservative by 40 you have no brain.

Work environment is not the total picture of what I was trying to say. It is the natural desire when faced with a bigger force arranged against you to look for a protector. In the middle ages the surfs gave up nearly all freedom for the protection of the nobleman and the walls of his castle. And when the danger had passed it is natural for the surfs to reclaim their freedom. The danger I referred to has passed. The surfs want a measure of freedom ... not improved serfdom.

There are always those that see themselves being controlled by others in return for the illusion of security. For example a fellow that was a station manager for me, could not imagine trying for his own radio station. He could not take the risk of his families future on his own abilities. What if he failed he asked me. But he was quite content to work for 'tator. My failing in business and losing his job for him, did not occur to him. It occurred to me a lot. He was shocked when I told him if I were looking for security I would never work for a company run by someone like me. I told him losing my paycheck was no problem for me. Letting someone else lose my paycheck was my fear.

There were people who were content and secure working for me because I projected the image of security. Such people will vote for Democrats to control their lives. They want the illusion of security and they get it. That the president of an Enron could ruin their whole life never occured to most people who took jobs at Enron. Enron gave them the illusion of security. But the industrial worker needing protection from the evil employer, is gone from the political scene. That political pitch is not going to work.

McKinley defeated William Jennings Bryan by 7 million to 6 million. What we are looking to gain is the majority of the votes. There will never be a monopoly. But the picture of FDR next to Jesus over the mantle is gone. The most we can ever hope for is 5 to 4 majority. Even a 10 to 9 majority is far more than enough.
