This is our own corner of Free Republic where homeschoolers can discuss what curriculum we use, vent when needed, share our successes, compare notes, alert each other to things we find on the internet, and vent some more.

I received this in my FReepmail and received permission from the sender to post it here..
Alex is 10 yrs. old. His mother (my sister) was killed in an accident several years ago. He attends counseling for very low self-esteem and seems to have a problem with feeling like he matters. He is shy, withdrawn, bad grades.......
...Alex is doing a "travel journal" in school. I think it would do his self-esteem wonders to have one of the finest to present in class. If you would like to help and/or could help enlist the help of others it would be so appeciated.
All that is required is this: send a postcard from your city to: Alex D.
c/o Mrs. Bullock
Madison Ave. Upper
1209 Madison Ave.
Madison, MS. 39110
On the postcard please write your name and city, climate, landmarks, industries, and other neat facts. Just brief and small to fit the card. This is due by 11/08/02. If I knew other people in different cities I would ask their help via-email. The problem is, I don't.
You are not obligated and I will never know who sent or did not. His grandmother will let us know how well he did on the project. It would be so nice to find out Alex had an overwhelming response for his scrapbook! I think that would make him smile with pride... and that.... is what I wish for him with all my heart.

I told the sender I had the "mother of all ping lists" (okay, maybe just the aunt or something, but that is why you got sent here, even if you don't homeschool) : )

Awww... I have a son named Alex who just turned five today. Maybe we can send a postcard.
Txbec, is this someone you know? Before my kids send anything, I just want to make sure that the email isn't a hoax just being passed around.

Far as I know, is an original request. It was waiting for me in my FR mailbox this morning. I cut out some more personal parts of the note. I really don't think it is a chain e-mail.

OK, I've got a question for the group.
We homeschool, and our nine year old is interested in the piano. He is learning songs by ear, and I thought it was time to teach him more.
Does anybody know where I can download something like a keyboard template? Something that shows the keys, the name of the note, and a staff representation of that note. I would suspect that somebody has done something like this to print out on banner paper.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Thanks for your happy birthdays to my son. We were out all day yesterday, but I will show him your posts today. He's the type of kid who smiles all the time, and your messages will make him very happy. Thanks again. =)

Thanks.
I spent an hour or so scanning Google for something without luck. I'm actually playing with making my own. Poked at Excel and think it is posible.
Let me know if you find something.
