I thought of bringing the movie Rosemary's baby but didn't think she'd find the humor in it. She'd find even less humor in "Alien"

Watch for signals that she is no longer a happy camper.Back in the early 70s, before video and internet, my husband was taping my first labor on an audio tape-recorder. The last words on the tape are, "Turn that eff'ing thing off!"
The other memory I have of his participation is that he broke the knob off his watch by overwinding it while timing contractions.
Postscript. All turned out well. My son, born that night, is 28, married and planning my first grandchild in a year or two.

P.S. to my last post. No epidural, no nothing, and 36 hours of labor. The bad old days in Australia. The good part was that I got to stay in hospital for 10 days.

I'm one of those people who like hospitals. In those days, particularly in maternity where no one was really sick and everyone was happy, it was like a hotel. I was in a posh hospital with good food, in a semi-private room, a first-time mom in with other moms of various degrees of experience, and a lot of comradery. Sort of like my college dorm with room service.
FYI, I was in a foreign country, without any family or personal network, and this was where I made a lot of friends those early days. We kept in touch until our babies were in their teens. I have very good memories of it. You weren't trapped in your room or anything -- you could walk in the rose garden, etc. It was very pleasant and friendly and nurturing. Plus, a 36-hour labor without any drugs (and no childbirth classes, either, so it was quite a shock)and a few more gory details I shouldn't reveal (well, I will -- cutting without any anaesthetic due to emergency; cord was not allowing the baby to get air and they had to get him out) --- suffice it to say that knocks the stuffing out of you and you really need a rest. At least I felt that way and was glad of it. Also, don't forget, there was no "paternity leave" in those days, and I would have been on my own with a new baby and feeling like crap.
