These lawsuits are throwing our justice system in the trash can. I hope, this time, that some "heads roll!"
Too, the Smarts should review their trust in LE. That PD has had its share of infighting in the past.

I've had a tendency for some time to think LE is hiding what they know from the Smarts for possibly self serving reasons. I think there have been signs people have helped Ed with PI type help. I've said before I think there's a good chance if the Smarts are going to find out the truth Ed is going to have to win his own ball game. See ya.

I've never read anywhere about the abductor allowing Eliz taking anything out of the bathroom...I remember reading that MK saw them entering the bathroom, but nothing was said about removing anything from there.
I've never said it wasn't possible. We don't have anything to indicate that there has been any infighting or incompetence. To the contrary, Jeanne Boylan was reassured after she got a look at how they were handling things and the Smart family has consistently supported LE's efforts. If there was infighting you would surely see leaks to the press. If there are problems with the investigation eventually we will find out. I'll stop defending them when something solid comes along to erode my faith in what they are doing.
Having said that, there is certainly a great deal of concern about the way the situation was handled in Oregon. It really looks to me like the second girl may have needlessly died. I'll be watching closely to see what comes of this.
Pure speculation, but there are a few things that support this thought. I already mentioned the family's feeling that she is alive in my earlier post. So lets speculate as to why the perp took her into the bathroom. Did she need to relieve herself? Did she need a lighted room to put on her shoes? Did he want a place to give her instructions before they left the house? Did she need to grab some kind of medication?
Ed refuses to answer when asked directly if anything was stolen on the night of the abduction. If some medication she were taking was missing then you wouldn't identify that as stolen. If it were a serious kind of medicine that Liz needed for her general health then I think we would have known that by now but who knows in this case. So many mysteries. Anyway, it's just something to kick around.

It is one thing to "learn" about the state, and quite another to feel compelled to share anything negative about the state with other FReepers. Why is it that you never share any positive articles about the state? Aren't you interested in learning and sharing postivie stories? No agenda, that's a laugh!
There is no "lack of concern" for MK and the rest of the family. Based upon Jengaio's analysis of the recent Smart letter, they probably believe that ES is dead. The Smart's have always been more concerned about ES and the family's welfare, rather than a conviction and they have said so. What this family needs and they are trying to achieve is a return to normalcy.
Only those that are grasping at straws.

Miranda Gaddis
OREGON CITY, Oregon (CNN) -- Law enforcement officials Sunday confirmed that a set of human remains found behind the home of Ward Weaver were that of 13-year-old Miranda Gaddis, one of two girls who disappeared early this year.
A second set of remains was recovered Sunday, Oregon City Police Chief Gordon Huiras announced. The remains were found in a barrel, underneath a concrete slab. Authorities said the medical examiner will not be able to determine whether the second set of remains were that of the second missing girl -- 13-year-old Ashley Pond -- until Monday.
