I had an interesting revelation tonight. (Vanity)

I went out with 4 of the women I work with after work for a going away celebration. One of them was leaving for another job - they asked me to join them for a drink (which turned into about 30).

Anyway, we had started talking about past relationships. I was asked why I did not marry the girl I was engaged to. I told of some factors including that she wanted to stay in Florida (where I had no job) whereas I was offered a very nice job in the hell-hole of Detroit.

But what sealed it for me was their family. I mentioned that they were racist - in the fact that they would refer to any black person as "that nigger".

Well, what shocked me is that they replied, "you are a Republican - they talk the same way". It was like Superman having green Kryptonite shoved down his throat. I tried to counter that Pubs do not talk this way (My 'ex's family were Dems if that makes a difference) but they very casually aswered "yes they do".

I am not sure what to make of this. Is the GOP really regarded as racists by the average woman? Keep in mind that the ladies I was out with regard me as a friend and I hardly did anything except have an NRA sticker in my cube that would mark me as a partisan.

First of all, conservatives don't have the built-in PC speech gene. Words are just tools with definitions. So yes, some crude republicans, and even conservatives, use such language when speaking in a stupid manner. They don't have a pretend way with the world like liberals do.

Does that mean they are, in a small minority, more bigoted than the like component on the left. Hardly. The dem politicos I know give no ground in ethnic centered behavior.

Second, within the conservative ranks, where conservatives honor voluntary association, sneaks the poor fearful bigot, wanting a world that doesn't exist. This small percentage is real, but shrinking. Prejudice is a word that has been wronged. When bigotry is called prejudice, confusion and poor thinking and behavior follows.

I think that thirdly (and last) there is a brain washing of the sheep that the media and academia does everyday to convince all that the Left is the right direction.

He's right. Not the majority of us, but they do pop up now and again. He's just being realistic about the few that make us all look bad.

Actually, I find that this type of behavior is most pronounced among highly educated single women. Women who are married and have children generally realize that family values aren't such a bad thing after all. The young unmarried women on the other hand have had sex with so many different men and yet are unmarried that they come to see men as sexist bigots and as the women's groups have told them over and over this is synonymous with Republicans. I happen to be a woman by the way and trust me, in my sorority I was ostracized by my conservative political tendancies. However, I made it through by holding my head high and holding onto my principles and in spite of what I was told about never being able to get a guy because I wouldn't "put out" I am happily married with two beautiful children which is more than I can say for a lot of my college aquaintances.

I have an idea. Call them on it. Seriously. Tell them you're sincerely taken aback by that and would they take the time, during the next two months, to keep a count when someone uses the N-word, to casually ask the person who they voted for (just as a round-about way, but if direct works, do it.)

I bet a buck that they'd be surprised that what was brainwashed over the media wasn't so true as lopsided.

I believe that many Democrats suffer mental illness.

I agree. Every one I've spoken to has been diagnosed with a condition called "monumental stupidity."

Yes, call them on it every time. It's entirely possible to disabuse someone of such notions, mostly through personal example and logic.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

And how long do they last, after they out themselves? Are there a few latent skinheads here? Sure. Are they tolerated once they are known? Nope. I don't like the implication that we tolerate the views of the Christian Identity Movement. They aren't welcome here. I don't know Jim; but I know Jim. That crap ain't welcome on his board. I'm sure the complaint I responded to was one of those "If you are against people breaking the law to get here, it must be because they have brown skin and not because they broke the law." That, also, is bullsh*t.

Yes, Christian Identity types get booted promptly. There are some regulars who let their biases slip out, though. The biggest thing to remember in regards to that, though, is that they are always immediately called on it by other freepers. That's much better than some uniform PC stifling of ecpression, imho.

BTW, I am a traditional skinhead, which means that I abhor those racist boneheads who the press likes to refer to as skinheads. Another case of 'repeat a lie enough times...'

Yes, the GOP is seen that way by many women and other minorities. Not entirely unjustified. Look at the number of posts on FR complaining that the country is getting "less white."

You need to take a closer look at those complaining to see what their true party affiliation is. The ones I have seen "complaining that the country is getting 'less white'" would spit blood and knives at you if you dared to call them "Republican". The GOP is more evil than Clinton to them.

I do agree with you that those who think only white is right are allowed too much of a platform here on FR.

Agreed; it is difficult to abolish all undercurrents of racism; ain't gonna' happen. But, on the whole, I think Freepers are the most tolerant of people; hell, we still let Muarray Mom post. I have never seen anyone exibit outright racism and not get thumped. It is wrong, and we all know it is so. As you say, when it rears it's head, the Freepers hit it with a bat. Jim/John, et. al. flush it down the drain.

Senator Robert C. Byrd (d)        Governor George Wallace (d)
West Virginia                            Mississippi

Look, the southern Democrats ruled the south until around the time George Wallace came on the scene.  George Wallace stood in the doorway and refused school access to blacks until President Kennedy federalized the National Guard and forced him to back down.  You tell me who the old racists were.  Around the time of Goldwater and Nixon the south was broken up and Republicans had a chance for the first time.<p>

Ask them if they know who Senator Robert C. Byrd is.  Pictured above, Senator Robert C. Byrd Democrat for West Virgina was an actual member of the Klu Klux Klan.  Can't be much more clear than that.  And guess what, the Democrats are honored to have him counted among them to this day!

I was a member of the Republican party for thirty years.  I never heard a one of them use the "N" word.

The Democrats love to rewrite history.  You wouldn't know there was a single thing wrong with Socialism or Marxism if they had their way.  Now they like to pretend that the Republicans are the major racists of the 20th Century.  Not hardly!

I would suggest that many of the over the line racist comments on this forum have been made by folks that are not friends of the forum. We know of several instances where posts were made by people, then recorded to present to the media as "what really went on" over at FreeRepublic. Most of the folks I know here wouldn't dream of trashing blacks or anyone else, however there are times when addressing truth and real issues it doesn't always reflect well on some minorities. But then the truth doesn't always reflect well on whites either. The truth is the truth. Other than that we should all watch what we say. I've probably made a blanket statement from time to time that was inappropriate, but I do not harbor ill will toward any ethinic group. We're all human. I'd just like to think that most of us try to be fair.

You are spot on, my friend. Most of what might be accused as racism here is just truth without the whipped cream. I don't think any true Freeper harbors ill will for any race, although sometimes our statements might be misconstrued (sp?) Ignoring cultural differences of the races can be just as bigoted as exploiting them. The point I am trying to make is that true racism is not tolerated here; not by the "populace," nor by the management.

It cracks me up to watch liberals say that blacks, hispanics, women, aren't smart enough, or hard working enough, to make a living. Therefore, we, the WASPS, must provide for them, like pets. And they call us racists.

The average woman? Is Rosie O'Donnell at 300 pounds considered the average woman? Is Martha "chopped any lettuce lately" Stewart the average woman? Is Barbra Streisand of "I'm proud to be a Liberal Jew, but couldn't tell you a darn thing regarding the heritage" an average woman? Is Julia "I'm a homewrecker with an Oscar" considered the average woman? How about Oprah "I'm too uppity for the average black male/female" Winfrey an average woman? How about Hillary "amnesia plagued, stand by her man a million times, and married to a rapist" the average woman?

These women above represent just a group of Elitist who set the tone and agenda for incompetent, the wells leaking type females. God has truly blessed women in this country with awesome men who can overcome such stupidity. There just aren't enough women sometimes to catch up with the brillant Conservative man!

The ones...complaining that the country is getting 'less white' would spit blood and knives at you if you dared to call them "Republican".

Last week at a meeting of conservative/libertarian leaders one leader tried to scare us about immigration with the phrases "People who look like us" and "People who don't look like us". He apologized and excepted the lady next to him of Hispanic anscestry as if she were an immigrant. It never occurred to him that she was born in Illinois. Her parents in Michigan. Their parents for who knows how many generations in Texas. She may have been the most American of anyone in the room.

The rest of us in the room, both libertarian and conservative, tried to get him to see the error of his ways....without success. The pro-life leader pointed out that he had the least American lineage in the room. We all pointed out that the Hispanics we knew were pro-life, pro-capital punishment, pro-self-defense, pro-traditional family, and voted for Bush and local Republicans. They hate paying taxes and hate the DemocRAT PRI Party of Mexico, love the PAN Republican Party of Mexico and usually elect Republican governors of Puerto Rico. (OK, so those Puerto Rican governors are RINO's...just like Illinois. But they do have the R label.)

If the media had been at the meeting, they would have quoted the one racist and ignored that 20+ others who took him on.

At liberal meetings on abortion, affordable housing, etc. Nearly 1/3 of the liberals were just as racist as that one conservative. The media reported on these liberal meetings omitting the racist remarks. The stories were carefully edited of non-liberal views (eg mine) to best educate readers to the need for the liberal program.

The most common racist remarks by liberals were minorities were not smart enough to find housing. Hispanics were not smart enough to make proper family planning choices and needed special help with that. They were not talking about welfare moms. They were talking about college educated minority hospital nurses and medical technicians, engineers at Motorola, police and firefighters.
