[history]
I went out with 4 of the women I work with after work for a going away celebration. One of them was leaving for another job - they asked me to join them for a drink (which turned into about 30).
Anyway, we had started talking about past relationships. I was asked why I did not marry the girl I was engaged to. I told of some factors including that she wanted to stay in Florida (where I had no job) whereas I was offered a very nice job in the hell-hole of Detroit.
But what sealed it for me was their family. I mentioned that they were racist - in the fact that they would refer to any black person as "that nigger".
Well, what shocked me is that they replied, "you are a Republican - they talk the same way". It was like Superman having green Kryptonite shoved down his throat. I tried to counter that Pubs do not talk this way (My 'ex's family were Dems if that makes a difference) but they very casually aswered "yes they do".
I am not sure what to make of this. Is the GOP really regarded as racists by the average woman? Keep in mind that the ladies I was out with regard me as a friend and I hardly did anything except have an NRA sticker in my cube that would mark me as a partisan.

They're apparently uneducated.
Or tragically propagandized by government schools.

You should have told them how much you like cats. Not sure if that would have made a difference :)
I guess I was naive(sp) about the attitudes that people have on those on the right.

You should have told them to believe none of what they hear and only half of what they see.

Not surprising to me.

Yep, that's the way Republicans are often portrayed. Tell a lie enough, and people will believe it. My own was very suprised when she found out my political affiliations, since she just took for granted that conservatives are bad racist, misogynist, seal-clubbing zealots. Just about any women's magazine is going to spout that line, and any of the major news outlets (fox is a pretty recent change).
I find I can only offer the example of my own behavior to people that believe such nonsense. That, and hard facts, such as the only klan member in the senate being a democrat. Conservatives hold people accountable, though, and that is seen as mean and cold-hearted, and racist if it is a minority person in question.
To: Hacksaw
Yes, the GOP is seen that way by many women and other minorities. Not entirely unjustified. Look at the number of posts on FR complaining that the country is getting "less white."

For using the
N word this thread will be sent directly to the
NAALCP where Mcfume-a will review and recommend pulling the plug on this thread!
And no I am no racist, Just a Republican.

These are just shallow dimwits who actually believe the major media is not biased and if they say (or imply strongly) that the GOP is full of racist bigots, then it must be true.
Their own experience may not prove this, but they are too intellectually lazy to form their own opinion.
Why have your own opinion, when you can just borrow Dan's, or Peter's, or Tom's?
These gals might be perfectly intelligent in their work lives, but be as shallow as low-tide when it comes to issues outside of their daily lives. It happens all the time.

You mean the schools where they duct tape students like hogs so they know what slavery was like? That is apparently the only important thing to learn about American History. I give up! :)

Every party in existence has its fair share of idiots claiming that the country is either 'too white' or 'growing too dark. It only seems to stick to conservatives, though. You could have 1000 white democrat teamsters chanting the n-word, and they would be seen as conservative somehow.

What do you expect from a bunch of brain-dead women? The intellectual highlight of their lives is watching Oprah.

I work with a woman who is obsessed with what a racist bas*ard George W. Bush is. I mean, he's trying to bring back Jim Crow! Probably the most racist president we've ever had!
When I ask her for any evidence or examples, she changes the subject to Enron and how greedy Bush is, and how much money he made off Enron.
I believe that many Democrats suffer mental illness.

Funny thing, I first found this site by following a link on salon.com, which regularly printed quotes by freepers. Of course they cherry-picked the most inflamatory crap from the dumbest among us. I wanted to see who the hell these 'freepers' were, and lo-and-behold, they were mostly a very reasonable group that I agreed with.
To: Hacksaw
You mean the same Republicans who think minorities can actually make it on their own, without government help? Those evil Republicans? Or would this be the Republicans who don't put abortion clinics in minority neighborhoods? Or the Republican administration who has hired more minorities than any administration ever? Those racists?

You can source those, I'm sure, without referencing posts that complain about illegal immigration. Or are you just cheaply throwing the race card at anyone who disagrees with your stance on immigration?
Nazis don't last long here, and your implying that they do is complete bullsh*t!
