Since y'all got a kick out of the "Tolkein" article, here's a new one for your mirth and merriment :-)

Even the VeggieTales Bible songs are jazzed and rocked up, thus creating a taste for Christian rock music in the youngest child. You know a thousand years ago, he would've been a real hit with the "harmony is of the devil crowd."
BTW, "Ward Smythe" was killed in the religion wars...lets just say he was a friend of mine...

I guess he wouldn't care for the love song "His Cheeseburger".

My only problem with VeggieTales is the relentless abundance of merchandise. I'll sit with my daughter and watch "Madame Blueberry" -
"A thankful heart
is a happy heart.
I'm glad for what I have.
It's an easy way to start."
However, now I can't take my daughter to a Christian Bookstore, because when it's time to go, I have to drag her, kicking and screaming, down from the mountain of VT garbage.
I've always wondered if kids really learn the lesson they're supposed to when they watch this sort of stuff.

VeggieTales founder Phil Vischer says that laughter is a key to teaching, that if you get people laughing, you can teach them anything. Let me ask a question: If this is true, why don't we find anything like it in the Bible? The Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice. Why don't we find Jesus making people laugh before He taught them spiritual truths.
Well, there is your problem right there. Imagine...Jesus laughing!
One of my favorite drawings of Jesus is the "Laughing Jesus" picture....

I disagree with Mr. Vischer. I believe the ultra silly approach to teaching spiritual truths CHEAPENS the things of God. It brings the blessed truth down to the level of worldly cartoons.Oh sure...I suppose putting 3rd graders into neat little rows and reading Calvin's Institutes to them is far better for them than trying to convey truth through other formats.
I've run out of patience with fools in the Christian church.

I will say, however, that I tend to be suspicious of anything that takes on the character of a "fad" within the Christian church. This would include Veggietales. My perspective on Veggietales isn't the same as Mr. Cloud's, but I generally am wary of anything that becomes a popular sensation within the mediocre church....
Consider me a crank, but I'm wary of the success of "The Prayer of Jabez." Wilkerson has turned that little prayer in the OT into a successful cottage industry for himself (or his publisher has).

Any show that features a cucumber singing a love song to a stuffed manatee is all right with me! My kids love these shows, and I have to admit I enjoyed them the first 150 times.

I agree with the author. The Veggie Tales are too fun and do not support true religion.
Children must be taught the Holy Scriptures using only the King James Bible. Music is allowed but it must be boring and accompanied with an organ, not even an electric piano.
Children should be forced to dress like dorks and Sunday School teachers should be fat and ugly.
Only then will we be able to reach children with the Gospel of Jesus.

Veggie Tales is awesome. Especially Larry Boy. I bought them for my daughters but I'm hooked.

I wonder what he thinks of fruit... or what folks do with IT?
Hey... I knew a girl who likes to peel bananas, with her teeth... and suck the insides out of a grape... I had to take that one home!!!
And what's he got to say about eating peaches and cream... darn I looooove eating peaches...
Poor daffid... he must be a really lonely guy... I wonder if he has issues dealing with the subject of cucumbers and pickles that he is NOT telling us about. . .
Thanks for the ping.... hehheh
btw... I think david's got a growing fan club here... Their motto?
"To the truly holy... nothing is pure... not even veggies... "

This guy is a bozo!!! My two girls are veggiefans and we can not wait for Jonah to come out.I am a "Pirate that wont do anything"

VeggieTales is "kind of the equivalent of what if Monty Python took over your Sunday school class" Never having seen a Veggie video (no kids) this is something I might pay to see. Monty Python teaches Sunday School. LOL
