Pilot with Navy’s Elite Blue Angels Squad Removed for ‘Failing to Uphold the Standards Expected’

A pilot with the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels has been removed from the elite flight demonstration team for failing to meet its standards, military officials confirmed.

Maj. Scott Laux, a U.S. Marine Corps aviator, was dismissed from the squadron, the Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) confirmed to the Pensacola News Journal on Friday, Nov. 6.

In a statement provided to the News Journal, CNATRA confirmed that Laux, who flew the No. 6 jet for the team, would not participate in the team’s remaining performances this season. “Blue Angel #6 was removed from the team for failing to uphold the standards expected of members of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron and will not participate in the team’s remaining performance this season,” the agency said.

Officials did not specify what led to Laux’s removal or when the decision was made, according to the outlet.

Laux’s photo and jet number appear to have since been taken down from the official Blue Angels officers’ page.

Laux, the CNATRA and the Blue Angels did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The Blue Angels, officially known as the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, are a team of highly skilled Navy and Marine Corps aviators known for performing elaborate aerial maneuvers in F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets.

Established in 1946, the squadron performs at air shows across the country to showcase the precision, teamwork and capabilities of naval aviation.

The Blue Angels performed with five jets instead of their usual six during the NAS Pensacola Homecoming Air Show in Florida, which celebrated the naval air station’s 200th anniversary, on Nov. 6, according to Newsweek and Pensacola News.

Cut the crap. Shouldn’t we know FIRST?

Makes me wonder if he made disparaging comments about the President, Secretary of War, the Iran situation, etc.

He might have been caught with an admiral’s daughter or some such.

Earlier this season one of the Blues made the news because of a low pass over the beach in Florida. Could this be related to that event?

I snuggled with the Base Commander’s daughter. My Dad was an NCO and caught Holy Heck. He chewed me for a long while. Eventually he said, good job son. She was cute.

Couldn’t possibly have been anything to do the Commander’s poor parenting skills?

One early Sunday morning raid at Yokohama AB our down had nearly the occupancy from all the ‘guests’. I pulled in the parking lot having just come drove back from Roppongi with a few friends and happened to see our 1st Sergeant, because we weren’t allowed in. Over 40 dependents were in there and a few needed medical attention because they had been lowered out the 2nd story windows and slipped or fell.

Our dorm never really had a drug problem, but it was dubbed Hotel California.

I never figured out the whole dependent dating thing. Just go to the bars off base. Of course, a friend of mine did have the schedule of when the Navy ships were leaving port. He would go down there the first weekend when they shipped out.

A maneuver that required slamming on the reverse thrusters.

I am going with “good”.

With so little else to go on, these guys really know what they are talking about.

“Meeting standards” would seem to me to be a prerequisite.

Fail in that and you are gone.

Simple enough.

Even though the Admiral knows, like Juddge Smails said about Lacey Underall, "My niece is the kind of girl who has a certain... zest of living. The last thing any of us need right now is a lot of loose talk about her behavior."

Was at a recent Blue Angels air show performance and this pilot made a couple of serious errors in the formation flying.

This is a pilot poor flight performance issue
