Alaska’s Republican governor announced early Thursday he was ordering an investigation into whether members of Democrat Mary Peltola’s Senate campaign should face criminal charges following the revelation that they recruited a candidate with the same name as GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan in a bid to siphon votes away from the incumbent.
After the plot was revealed in a Wednesday New York Times report, Gov. Mike Dunleavy described it as “an organized effort to manipulate Alaska’s elections by recruiting candidates—including one with the same name as an incumbent U.S. Senator—to deliberately confuse voters and misdirect their votes.”
“I am therefore directing the Department of Public Safety to investigate whether this scheme violated Alaska’s laws and whether criminal charges or civil action are warranted. The evidence will determine what happens next,” Dunleavy added. “Alaskans have a fundamental right to vote for the candidate they actually intend to support. Deliberately tricking voters into casting their ballots for someone else strikes at the integrity of our elections. Anyone or any organization found to have broken the law must be held accountable.”
Republicans have repeatedly cried foul over the presence of Dan J. Sullivan on the Nov. 3 general election ballot alongside Peltola, Sen. Dan S. Sullivan, and a fourth candidate, Gerald Heikes. However, the practice known as “ballot-stacking” is legal — if ethically questionable — and it was not immediately clear what offenses Democrats may have committed.
The Times report detailed a recruitment scheme joined by staffers of both Peltola’s campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), in which veteran party operative Jerid Kurtz made contact with Dan J. Sullivan, a retired teacher and former US Forest Service employee.

I wonder how many misspelled Murkowski write in votes were counted for Lisa Murkowski.
Is it not then logical to count all Dan Sullivan votes for the real Dan Sullivan?
EC
This looks like this has got legs (and not the Sheer Energy type, lol). I wonder if this might be grounds for invalidating a Democrat win on Tuesday if that takes place.

Why didn’t the Alaska GOP do its investigation months ago?
I am Dan Sullivan and so is my wife
Sure, a couple of days before the election. Governor should primaried for perpetrating a farce on the voters.
The answer to your question is in your question.
Unfortunately it's already been to court at least once or so one has heard, and the ruling has been that one Dan Sullivan has just as much right as another Dan Sullivan to run for office...
Still it's farcical. One hopes the real effect is to flip some swing voters...
Let’s recognize the obvious when it’s too late to do a damn thing about it.
This is why we lose. The demholes play mean and dirty, and the pubbies bring sternly-worder letters to gunfights.
Until there are deaths, the Rats will continue to destroy the Republic
Agreed, she should be locked up...
four months to late with this probe...
Democrat Mary Peltola needs to remove her name from the ballot.
I would think at a minimum there would a crime of conspiracy to commit election interference.
You are a lot nicer than me.
To me, she should be put in jail at the very LEAST. Tampering with an election should be dealt with SEVERELY!
Yes, if she doesn't immediately withdraw from the race.
No one is going to jail.
No one is going to jail.
You’re right. A “D” next to someone’s name is the great inoculation known to mankind. Better than the polio vaccine!
For what? Are voters really too stupid to read a ballot? Besides, by now every single eligible voter in Alaska has probably heard about the whole thing and is going to double-check before voting for one of the Sullivans.
