Unexpectedly, a kind of protein that is usually linked with diseases in the brain may play a vital role in semen, helping shepherd genetic material into sperm cells, scientists at Columbia's Zuckerman Institute report today in the research journal Molecular Cell.
Dr. Fitzpatrick, an expert on amyloids in brain research, wondered if those fibrils could also help materials naturally in the body enter sperm: specifically, the genetic molecule RNA, which helps turn instructions encoded in DNA into protein molecules. Scientists knew that seminal fluid contains lots of small RNAs, thought to play a major role in what genes are active in developing embryos. But how this RNA gets chaperoned from seminal fluid into sperm to influence the embryo — that was a mystery.

What does the protein do in women?
Guess it depends upon which end it is injected.
Epigenetic Inheritance: The delivered RNA can influence gene expression in developing embryos, serving as a potential mechanism for how a father’s environmental experiences or diet might transmit traits to offspring (epigenetic inheritance).
This is really important as the greatest epigenetic influence on cell transcription and replication is consciousness.
Protein tangles behind Alzheimer’s disease may be critical for human reproduction
Semen fibrils trap bad sperm so immune cells can eat them up

Semen has something in common with the brains of Alzheimer’s sufferers: Both contain bundles of protein filaments called amyloid fibrils. But although amyloid accumulation appears to damage brain cells, these fibrils may be critical for reproduction. A new study suggests that semen fibrils immobilize subpar sperm, ensuring that only the fittest ones make it to the egg.
researchers moved on to a new idea. Perhaps the fibrils could help women eliminate bad sperm. Following intercourse, a woman’s immune cells flood her reproductive tract to get rid of potentially harmful microorganisms, Roan says. To see whether semen fibrils might be facilitating this process, the researchers incubated healthy sperm with or without the synthetic fibrils, and then measured how many sperm were being eaten up by immune cells. In the presence of fibrils, up to five times more sperm cells were devoured than in the absence of fibrils.
Fibrils also promoted the removal of sperm that had been damaged with ultracold temperatures. Immune cells ate up to 1.5 times more defective sperm cells when fibrils were present than when they weren’t, the team reports in eLife.
My mother died from Amyloid Protein deposits in her heart.
It is a rare disorder. Amyloidosis.
The deposits attack circulatory soft tissue, and the deposits make the soft tissue hard (no longer works).
My father died (at 95) from another type of protein deposit. I have forgotten what protein that was. That protein was not uncommon.
Both of them had memory issues late in life.
I noticed the mention of HIV in the article. It had nothing to do with my parents. The article referenced that for the tool for modifying genes. Something they don’t understand. (No Surprise)
I spent 20+ years helping care for sick or elderly family. One thing I learned, there are some excellent doctors and there are some know-it-all idiot doctors.
They know SQUAT about the physiology of Alzheimer’s. amyloid plague, etc., complete BS.

TL;DR - they followed a bunch of geriatric patients for years. And then were able to do post mortems after they passed. The patients were part of dementia studies. There was one guy who was UNBELIEVABLY sharp - and another guy who had massive dementia. What happened - well - of course they got in their skulls and the sharp guy has a nice clean brain and the dementia guy had a brain loaded with amyloid plague, right?
WRONG! EXACTLY the opposite.
The doctor running the study even admitted, “after these post mortems, all I can say is that we know less now than when we started the study.”
So, for all the women man haters is this another reason to hate us? Like they need one.
If they’re somehow getting semen in their brain?
Deliveries? Like UPS, FedEx, USPS?
That was a crazy movie, lol.
That was a crazy movie, lol.

Ana! Now we know why they are bad swimmers…their legs are tangled up in nets. Can’t win the race like that.
Back when Woody Allen still made funny movies.
Yup.
New!
