Barbara Barrie has died with medical assistance.
The Oscar-nominated actress died Wednesday at her home in Manhattan, the New York Times reported. Her daughter, Jane Harnick, said her death was medically assisted after she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Barrie was 95 years old.
Cancer was not her only health battle. She was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2014, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a degenerative disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred, making it hard to breathe.
Barrie was an accomplished actress, winning the Cannes Film Festival award for best actress in 1964 for her performance as Julie in “One Potato, Two Potato,” a groundbreaking film about an interracial relationship.
She was nominated for an Oscar in the best supporting actress category for her role in 1979’s “Breaking Away,” her most famous role. She played the character Evelyn Stohler in the coming of age comedy-drama about a group of teens in Bloomington, Indiana, who recently graduated from high school.

Loved her as the mom on “ Breaking Away.”
I very much remember seeing this actress in several TV series over the 1980’s and 90’s. She was 95, and suffering from several chronic, very serious ailments.
I would presume Barbara made this decision fully aware of what she was doing.
In more recent pics, her body was worn down and quite ravaged by illness, but her eyes remained the same, bright, aware and thoughtful at all times.
I know she was acting, as her job, but she did it well.
Barbara had the resting face of ‘One Who Can Listen”
In 1972, Barrie signed her name to the Ms. campaign “We Have Had Abortions”
which called for an end to “archaic laws” limiting reproductive freedom.
The campaign encouraged women to share their stories and take action.
Mrs. Barney Miller is what I remember her as.

In 1973 abortion was legalized.
Formerly known as murder.
Thank You!!! It was driving me crazy.
Bullshit... for one thing, she was damned lucky to live to 95!! Very Lucky!! And to call it quits, to rid herself of a painful death, you call that murder??
Therefore plenty of other ways/means to virtue signal over. Leave this one alone. It used to be called mercy...
What other Commandments can I ignore? Please share.
Wow. What a hero. And I suppose you could put it that way—- “legalized.” Another way to put it is that the Supreme Court usurped the power of the states to impose their own policy preference with a phony-baloney “constitutional” basis that even Ruth Ginsburg admitted wasnt supported by the Constitution . Because they weren’t content to let the democratic processes play out, they ignited a decades-long national civil ideological war, and radicalized generations of women. It isn’t for me to reckon the depths of God’s mercy, but Harry Blackmun has the blood of millions on his hands and deserves to burn in hell for “legalizing” abortion
Idiopathic = We haven’t an effing clue what causes it.

You live in a fantasy world... your vow to not break “commandments” I’m sure would be straight up on a real lie detector test. And any “God” that would call it a sin to end your own life if your paralyzed, cant move, can wipe your own ass, and have someone else taking 100% care of you is not a God I would ever think about following.
There is a huge difference killing yourself because youre a total loser and if youre an invalid. And I’m sure your God is aware of that as well.
Have a nice eternity.
It looks like it was her choice. If she did it to herself, I have no problem with it. That’s between her and God. To assist doesn’t mean they stuck the needle in her arm or smothered her. I don’t know how she went, but it looks like it was her choice, her action. I’m glad I’ve never been faced with those circumstances.
Lol...
If there is one, I’m sure I’ll see a lot of familiar faces!! If there is one which I very seriously doubt.
Yes, it was her choice and as stated on a past thread, I have seen elders go in my family very hard. I personally would never put my kids thru that. If I cant go to the bathroom anymore by myself, thats when its time to say goodbye!!
It’s a leftist thing to do to emphasize her medically assisted death....she sure didn’t die from cancer and Lung disease and not old age.
No one needs help in dying...stop taking fluids..no need for a public parade.
I remember her. Even recognized her name. No clue what I saw her in besides “Barney Miller.” She had 122 credits at Imdb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0057363/
