Neat, thanks.
Isn’t this a remake of a 1950s horror flick of the same name?
Durning was a decorated combat veteran in WWII, a true hero, landing at Normandy, and going on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge:
Durning served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was drafted at age 20. Durning landed in France as part of an artillery unit in one of the first waves of the D-Day invasion of Normandy. After being wounded by a German anti-personnel mine in the bocage, he spent six months recovering. Durning was reassigned to the 398th Infantry Regiment with the 100th Infantry Division, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. He was discharged at the rank of private first class on January 30, 1946.For his valor and the wounds he sustained during the war, Durning was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Hearts. He also received the Bronze Star because he had earned the Combat Infantry Badge. Additional awards included the Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Arrowhead device and two bronze service stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. His badges included the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Badge with Rifle Bar and Honorable Service Lapel Pin.[9]
Durning received the French National Order of the Legion of Honor from the French Consul in Los Angeles in April 2008.
I haven’t thought about Carol Kane in a long while.
Good character actress. I always thought she was like Mia Farrow’s ‘happier’ sister. Both petite women with unexpected inner strength.
My late mom and I would watch movies like this, had it on DVD even. It is fun to be scared sometimes.
Charles Durning was one of the few soldiers to survive the Malmedy massacre, where over 80 American prisoners of war were executed by German soldiers during World War II. He was captured during this event but managed to escape with his life.
Thank you!
This movie is the origin of the trope where the police call the terrorized young lady and inform her “The calls are coming from in the house!”.
Dang - I should have put up “Warning: 47-year Spoiler Alert”.
Carol has lately been a highlight of the last decent Star Trek show “Strange New Worlds”. She’s still stealing scenes.
We had just gotten our first cable subscription and I watched that movie right out of the box and it scared the heck outta me....what a twist. I loved Colleen Dewhurst, one of my favorite actresses.....I’m looking under the bed before I lie down tonight.....brrrr
I liked him too....
The 1993 sequel, “When a Stranger Calls Back”, was pretty good too.
I remember seeing this in the theaters when it came out. Always though she looked cute to me.
He was really good as a MOH winner in an episode of the show NCIS.
