US District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein, a Clinton appointee in the Southern District of New York, passed away at 92.
Hellerstein was appointed to the bench in 1998.
""U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein, a longtime federal judge in Manhattan who was overseeing the prosecution of deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, died Wednesday morning, according to a court spokesperon," Politico reported.
Earlier this year, Maduro was indicted on four counts by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York.
Read the indictment here.
The grand jury indicted Maduro, his wife, Cilia Flores, and four others on four counts: Narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
Maduro and his wife pleaded not guilty.
Judge Hellerstein was overseeing this case and other high-profile cases.
Recall that Hellerstein rejected President Trump's attempt to appeal the New York hush money lawfare conviction.
In May, Hellerstein indefinitely blocked the Trump Administration from deporting Tren de Aragua gang members under the Alien Enemies Act.
That’s too bad. At least it will be warm there.
What a lib bastard. Glad he is no longer on the bench working his evil way against the US Constitution
92 Y/O JUDGE ACTIVE???
At some point they go into senior status. This judge was appointed at age 64 in 1998 by Clinton. He went to senior status in 2011. When the judge goes senior status, they get reduced case loads and get pay raises and cost of living as mentioned by a poster above. If a judge fully retires their pension is frozen at 80% of their final salary. They would only take this option is they went back to practicing law or generating income some other way. A judge that has been on the bench for 20 years, probably isn't going back to practicing law.
