“60 Minutes” was aware that the married father of two it profiled on Sunday claimed he was gay on immigration documents in an apparent effort to avoid being deported, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official.
The CBS News program was informed of the seemingly fraudulent claims the deported migrant, Moussa Diawara, made about his sexuality on an asylum application a full two weeks before the segment aired, a DHS spokesperson told The Post Tuesday.
But the program made no mention of Diawara, who is married to a woman, invoking his alleged homosexuality in the documents from 2012 as a means to block deportation to his native Mali over discrimination concerns.
“60 Minutes” instead reported that Diawara insisted he couldn’t be sent back to Mali because he converted to Christianity and feared he would be religiously persecuted in the Muslim-majority country.
A rep for the show did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment Tuesday.
Diawara was deported to Ghana in July, more than a decade after he overstayed a tourist visa and claimed refugee status that barred him from being sent back to Mali.

Any loophole in any system will be abused. A loophole creates a special “right.” Why should some people have a right that’s denies to me? I’ll just use it anyway.
The producers from 60 Minutes need to be charged for aiding and abetting fraud, because that’s exactly what that is.
Gay or not illegal is illegal kick him out and inform him he is not special.
One can’t be deported if gay? WTH?
60 Minutes involved in election interference???
hmmmm- where has this played out in the past???
Note, I am not a lawyer so if any attorney wants to weigh in and prove me wrong, then go for it.
It is odd that the article didn’t mention where his wife and children are. Are they in Mali? the US? somewhere else?
We should deport them but give them some sound advice: if you really are gay, and you’re afraid for your life in your home country because of it, and you’re not a moron, keep it a secret!.
No one is going to know you’re gay unless you act gay or say you’re gay.
Yes,
He basically claimed, he cannot return to his country, because he will be thrown from some tower, or whatever they do to gays in muslim countries.
Which was obviously untrue!
So he lied on immigration application, which is serious crime, even eligible to denaturalization (I do not think he was naturalized).
It is hard for immigration officers to check and verify all the claims, so they rely on sworn testimonies of applicants.
If, after the fact, it is proven, that the applicant lied in this sworn testimony, there really is no recourse from deportation!
He could be even locked to jail for perjury!
I think this is the first time in history that 60 Minutes portrayed a Christian sympathetically and admitted that Muslim society is willing to kill Christian converts. And all it took was their overwhelming hatred of Trump and desire to stick it to the Trump Administration. Trump Derangement Syndrome is so strong that it gets the anti-Christian, pro-Islam zealots at 60 Minutes to do a 180 on their views of Christianity and Islam. LOL.
Cut the cord so didn’t know it was still airing.
This was during the Obama maladministration, so the acceptance of his claim was a given.
