Birdwatchers flocking to a village in hopes of spotting a rare bird have disrupted bus services.
Also known as twitchers, hundreds of enthusiasts descended on Mundesley in Norfolk at the weekend after a northern nutcracker was spotted in a garden on Friday.
Bus company Sanders Coaches said the enthusiasm led to some questionable parking which meant some bus services had to be altered.
The bird had not been seen in Norfolk since 1968 and had not been widely spotted in the UK since 1991.
Chris Stone, 44, from Wymondham in Norfolk, took up birding when he was 13 and was travelling north to see another bird when he got an alert about the nutcracker and drove back.
"From Flamborough to Mundesley is about a five-and-a-half hour drive. So time was against us, we hoped it would stay," he said.

Any chance it was just pining for the fjords?

“Birdwatchers flocking to a village in hopes of spotting a rare bird have disrupted bus services.” “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. So it’s been said.
Makes me think of British version of Wally Cox and Nancy Culp. https://youtu.be/gEZkJmB_T2g?si=HbTnymVkuO8XBi-u
Better tonic those birdwatchers!
A few years ago, a Whooping Crane was reported in north central Arkansas, and I traveled the one hour 15-minute drive to “tick” it. Victory!
Then a year or two ago, an EXTREMELY EXTREME rare bird showed up in Arkansas. Yellow Grosbeak. But it was way up north near the Missouri border, probably 3.5 to 4 hours away by car. I passed. Sure enough, some of my old field biologist friends texted me and asked if I got the Yellow Grosbeak. I informed them I just didn’t have the will or energy to drive 4 hours to see a grosbeak, no matter how EXTREMELY rare. They thought I was nuts, as there would almost certainly never be another chance to see a Yellow Grosbeak in Arkansas.
Now I must live with this decision.
But I’m ok with it…
Four hours is a long drive.
As I rode my Haley Today on the Interstate, with magnificent Autumn Colored Trees on each side, a Red-Tailed Hak was making “Lazy Circles in the Sky” just like in the Musical “Oklahoma”.
I couldn’t take a picture, because I was riding, and YOU FOLKS on FR are the first and only people I shared it with.
It was really nice.
Yes, but most of them live in Nevada. They’ll drive 8 hours to tick a rare bird and think nothing of it.
bttt
HAWK.
But I’m sure you knew I meant Hawk, not Hak. 😎
I wrote HALEY? Yikes!
I’m not THAT kind a gal! 😳
Nope...it’s a Harley, 1993 FXR Superglide.
