R&B legend Stevie Wonder is suing to evict his ex-fiancée from his Studio City home she’s been living in rent-free for nearly four decades.
The Motown icon filed a lawsuit against former flame Carmen Efferson in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, after she cursed out his legal representatives and refused access to the home for a property tax inspection, the complaint says.
Efferson allegedly refused to vacate the home on Oak Glen Drive when the singer’s legal reps tried to get her out of his home, which she has been living in since July 1988 per an oral agreement, according to the suit. Wonder has been married to Tomeeka Bracy since 2017.
The three-bedroom, four-bathroom property is valued at nearly $1.8 million, according to Zillow.
The drama began when Efferson received a mailed notice about the property tax inspection and responded with a profanity-laced email to Wonder’s legal team, the suit alleges.
“Please refrain from your rascist [sic] coldblooded ‘white male privilege’ tone (again with you). I am feeling harassed,” she wrote in the July 25 not, according to the suit.
“Regarding your ORDERS of entering into the place where I am living, I do not consent. Do not make any attempt to make any kind of contact with me. You or any of the ‘We’ you are referring to. In other words F–K the F–K OFF..!!!”

What’s the big deal?
It’s not like he has to see her every day...
I just called. To say. Get out.
OPEN AND NOTORIOUS....are words that come to mind.
His wife, Tomeeka, has to see her though.
It is crazy. This is why I would never own or rent property. Granted, this is not quite that, but...the mechanisms are the same.
What is he going to do? The police in California will be on her side. The courts, regardless of the law, will be on her side.
I feel bad for him.
He should have seen this coming.
she seems nice
An “oral” agreement? The jokes write themselves. I think the journalist meant “verbal” agreement.
Yep in Commiefornia they ALWAYS take the side of the tenant, especially now if Raman wins LA Mayor, that is why my Mom has an apt building she and my aunt co own on the market but so far no takers, who’d want to be a landlord right now, no one
Sometimes injustice is blind.
Perhaps he was blind-sided....
When I lived in Los Angeles (as a six-year-old), my mother heard that the owner of our apartment building (it was part of a row of identical buildings) was a movie star, from the 1940s. Unfortunately, I don’t remember which one.
“What’s the big deal? It’s not like he has to see her every day...”
Series question ... have you ever seen his wife?
Neither has he!
lol! Signed, Sealed, Delivered You’re gone
Neither has Stevie...
Amazing He’s still living!
Sounds like she’s a vile ingrate.
Rent control efforts. Lawfare efforts to change existing laws to overwhelmingly favor renters no matter how unfair. Police will not enforce. Courts do nothing, and side with renters.
And people whine “Oh, no, rental costs are sky high and there aren’t enough rental units available!”
Gee. I wonder why that is.
Love is blind
