WASHINGTON — The search warrant on “Squad” Rep. Ilhan Omar hasn’t necessarily been “fully” completed, court documents in a legal fight between the feds and the media indicated.
At dawn on Oct. 12, the feds executed a search warrant and raided Omar’s (D-Minn.) DC home as part of a probe into her immigration status in a stunning move less than a month out from the Nov. 3 election.
To justify keeping the details of the records for the warrant under wraps from numerous media outlets, US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro cited concerns that it wasn’t fully completed.
“[G]ood cause exists to extend these deadlines until after the subject search warrant has been fully executed,” Pirro and her team wrote in a court filing Wednesday.
Pirro’s team didn’t shed light on what elements of the warrant are still outstanding and when it is expected to be fully executed.
Over a dozen media outlets had filed a petition in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on Thursday of last week to obtain the search warrant documents amid the frenzy over Omar.
The court documents also give a clue about the feds’ interest in her previous marriage. They refer to the congresswoman under an alias, “Nur Said Elmi,” in reference to her relationship with her ex-husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
Little is known about Elmi, but a Somali forum speculated that he was actually her brother and the two married for immigration-related reasons.
Omar previously said in a 2016 statement that she had filed for a marriage license with her other ex-husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, in 2002 at the age of 19, but they “never finalized the application and thus were never legally married.”
