Tennessee Titans cut DL Jordan Elliott after he allegedly brought a gun to team facility

The seventh-year pro had played in Tennessee’s first five games this season before being sidelined this past Sunday.

==============================================================

The Tennessee Titans cut defensive lineman Jordan Elliott after he brought a gun to the team’s training facility in a “terrible lapse of judgement,” officials said Wednesday.

Titans coach Robert Saleh defended Elliott and called his now-former player “a good man” who deserves another chance — but just not in Tennessee.

“He’s a good man (who) had a terrible lapse in judgment that I recognize as a call for help more than a than a criminal act,” Saleh told reporters. “It’s unfortunate the way it went down.”

Union officials and Elliott’s agent could not be immediately reached for comment on Wednesday.

It wasn’t immediately clear what might have prompted Elliott to bring a firearm to the team’s Nashville headquarters.

Nashville police were not called and did not respond to the scene, the department said Wednesday.

“The league’s firearm policy prohibits any personnel from bringing a firearm to club facilities, stadiums, and team hotels and on team planes or buses,” the NFL said in a statement to NBC News on Wednesday. “The club promptly notified the league of the matter which is under review.”

Elliott had played in Tennessee’s first five games this season before being listed as inactive on Sunday for “not injury related, personal” reasons.

Then by Tuesday, he was off the team.

“On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott,” according to a Titans statement.

“Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter.”

Elliott signed with Tennessee this past off season, following two years with the San Francisco 49ers and then four previous campaigns with the Cleveland Browns.

Elliott’s move to Nashville made for a reunion between he and Titans first-year coach Saleh, who was the defensive coordinator in Santa Clara last season.

The coach said he hopes Elliott can sign with another team and that he’d vouch for the player’s character.

“Unfortunately rules are rules with regards to guns on (team) property,” Saleh said.

“My message to 31 other teams would be: If you need a hell of a run-stopping D tackle that can help you on a playoff run, give me a call. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him.”

The 28-year-old Houston native played college football for the Texas Longhorns and Missouri Tigers before he was taken by Cleveland in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

“At the end of the day, we’re all humans,” QB Cam Ward said. “We’re all with him. I mean he’s a great person.”

According to the article, he threatened no one with the gun and the police weren’t even called. Is this just a case of the NFL jumping up on a chair and saying, “Eek, a gun!!”

The Titans may be a bit sensitive to the issue of players with guns at their facility.

Maybe the Cowboys will pick them up. They need all the help they can get.

In 2025, Nashville ranked 13th in the nation in violent crime - maybe that’s why the player was carrying. No, NFL, it’s not always about you - sometimes it’s about life in general.

I recognize as a call for help more than a than a criminal act

I recognize it as a desire to be able to protect himself no matter where he is.

or Elliot could be like Costanza, fearing no reprisals and wanting the hell out of there!

If he doesn’t have a rap sheet a mile long or a history of making violent threats, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was carrying for self-defense and just ran afoul of “gun free zone” rules.

If he has a history of thug activity, not so much.

If he just forgot it was in his bag that would be one thing...

In saner days they would have just told him “get this the F out of here you idiot” and kept quiet.

Did he simply forget he was carrying? I did that once (and somehow got through the metal detector to get in the building.....which didn’t exactly make me feel secure). I realized I had forgotten to take my gun out of my jacket and quickly went and put it in the trunk of my car. Nobody found out.

“The league’s firearm policy prohibits any personnel from bringing a firearm to club facilities, stadiums, and team hotels and on team planes or buses,”

So, you are not allowed to exercise your 2nd amendments rights when commuting/traveling. Yet another reason to avoid pro football.
