On October 20, 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert “Bob” Gimlin captured just under a minute of shaky, grainy 16mm film footage of Bigfoot. Allegedly. Nearly 60 years later, the new documentary Capturing Bigfoot finally puts the issue to rest: it was a hoax.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Of course it was a hoax.” To many of us, the clip was an obvious ruse. That seven-foot-tall hirsute fella is a person in a suit. Bigfoot, like Nessie, the Abominable Snowman, the Jersey Devil, and El Chupacabra, does not exist.
However, for many others, the myth has persisted. Those 59 seconds of distant, shaky footage showing a supposed Sasquatch walking through Northern California’s forests have captivated people for nearly six decades, analyzed and overanalyzed by enthusiasts and respected experts alike. Somehow, the footage has remained oddly magnetic to believers and skeptics alike.

Now all they have to do is discredit all those Native American accounts of “forest man” - from widespread tribes who never had contact with one another.
“Big Chief drinkum too much fire water.”
“Scout had bad dream after sleeping on gift blanket.”
“Squaw picked wrong mushrooms for dinner.”
Comedian Mitch Hedberg once remarked that maybe Bigfoot is blurry in real life. That’s why all the pictures of Bigfoot look out of focus.
It’s not the photographer’s fault.
😀
Maybe the doc is a hoax. People need to stop thinking "documentary" means it's truthful.
I find those bigfoot tv shows amusing. Now, none of the searchers have ever actually seen a bigfoot. Yet, when they hear a strange howl, they know for a fact it is a bigfoot.
Reminds me of possum hunting. Bunch of good ole boys sitting around a campfire listening to their dogs run while drinking bourbon from a bottle passed around the fire.
Some take it very seriously. A friend I knew bought a house for his parents to live in just so he would have someone to feed his dogs. He had dog food delivered in a dump truck from the county co-op. I asked him how many dogs he had and he replied that he didn’t know for sure. He never knew how many dogs he would get back when he let his out to hunt. Said he might let out a dozen. Sometimes he’d get them all back. sometimes only half. Sometimes he’d get more back than he let out. Plus he said several of dogs were pregnant....BTW, he once paid $1200 for a single dog. He made 2 or 3 hundred thousand a year selling crop insurance to cotton farmers.
He was a wild drinker. We were sure he would be killed in car wreck. Well, he was t-boned on sunday afternoon on his way to see his mother. Stone, cold sober. DOA.
And that famous picture of a big foot looking directly at the camera as it was walking by.
Oh, sh!t. And my shocked face is in the shop.
Bigfoot riding on the Loch Ness Monster? A good friend of mine works for NASA. He tells me that the picture is 100% legit. The picture was found on a UFO that crashed near Roswell, New Mexico.
This is a true story, I tell ya.
👽
It is amazing how greatly Bigfoot and UFO sightings have decreased now that practically everyone has a really good camera on them at all times.
Quelle surprise?
Thanks
I can pass on the Documentary!
